I'm thrilled to find this on KZbin! I've told my friends about the one my Grandfather had when I was a kid. His had a Camper Special badge on the B-pillars where this one has the GMC badges. I remember him hauling a fifth wheel with it. The center consul had the just the right amount of space to hold his 2A device.

Actually GMC had an equivalent truck to Chevrolets Big 10 called "Heavy Half" But I've always loved the Gentleman Jim GMC pickups, That one you have there is a beast. GMC also had a 1975 Beau James model Sierra.

I’m in the process of doing a full frame of restoration on a Gentleman Jim. They are a super cool truck and the gentleman and the beau james were GM’s first attempt of a luxury pickup. In my opinion they are one of the most important square bodies made and helped set the path for the luxury pickups we see today.

Attempts by Chevy and GMC could go back a few years earlier 1971-72 with the Cheyenne and Sierra with the wood grain tailgate panels and I believe the Cheyenne was the first to introduce the sliding back glass along with other luxury features like a/c, am/fm radio, auto trans. etc.
@brockbender6655
@brockbender6655 2 ай бұрын
Yes, GM did offer most of these luxury features years prior to the Gentleman Jim. The Gentleman Jim took it a step farther trying to make a pickup not just a work vehicle. To my knowledge the Gentleman Jim was the first time GM put all of these options offered at the time into one package along with special options like the comfort suspension, tonneau cover, special color combination, wheels, etc

Awesome ride there😎😍👍 75 was the only year for those GMC Gentleman Jim limited edition pickups & they're super duper rare nowadays. What's also super duper rare nowadays are square body pickups with the long stepside box, especially the three quarter ton & one ton ones. The square body pickups with the short stepside box on the other hand I still see on the roads sometimes, but most of the square body pickups I see today are fleetsides.

@@primeredisbest oh I've noticed that pickup has the gold stripe in the side molding trim which was surprising because I thought 77 was the only year for that. I learned recently that those limited edition pickups did have that gold stripe back in 75. Wow I learn something new everyday. Also in 75, I believe GMC had another limited edition pickup called the Beau James which was 2-tone blue & silver. Rewind to 74, GMC had another limited edition pickup called the Indy 500 which was 2-tone gold & white.

The equivalent to a big 10 is a GMC heavy half. The Gentleman Jim and Beau James trucks are 75 only GMC promotional trucks. As far as the gold ochre trim. It was only used on Gentle Jim’s in 75 and for the whole year of 1977 only. It was not used in 76 and on 73-75 either unless it was a 75 Jim. Not used on 78-80 trucks either

Wow what a cool truck! I've always liked the special promotional luxury models like the Beau James, Gentleman Jim, Big 10 etc. I love my '78 Bonanza. Quick question though because there seems to be a lot of confusion on these but since they were badged as 15's they would be 1/2 ton right? But these were supposed to have 3/4 ton frames on 1/2 ton suspension so I was curious what Tim could tell us about this on his truck? Thanks in advance and thank you Jimmy for the video. Very cool!
