This was interesting. We're in the process of buying a house and the survey brought damp issues to our attention. Some problems in various places on the house, dpc bridging in different places and a weird part when for some reason the dpc seems none existentent 🥴 quite scary really so doing loads of research and trying to make good choices before spending any more money. Youre right about a plan, wouldve been much clearer to us! Thanks for the info Sam 😊👌🏻

Is this the same for inspecting wood bore infestation affected timber? Also how do you inspect for that where timber is hidden?

For hidden stuff that would be a destructive invasive survey and that’s extra and needs permission

Not sure what sheet you mean but I have a template I use on the iPad these days but back then on site I had a pen and a photo copy of the back of a safeguard guarantee which had a drawing sheet and key on. For the reports we have pre made docs for all scenarios

Ben & Abi the one I use in the vid is a Protimeter MMS, this is the older model. You can look on eBay and Facebook market place and pick them up along with the survey master. They are around £700 new but I can take humidity, temp and dew point measurement with it. If you can pick up a second hand one they are great. Iv just bought a protimeter mini for £90 and they are £180 new. It’s only been used a couple of times.

Matt Walker I think the best Iv seen is the small grey balls, but it has to be done right. Someone sent me pictures yesterday with them all over a subfloor because the vents had not been prepped correctly.

Hi Daniel, I’m sorry as far as I’m concerned there is no average. There are good and bad companies as well as cheap and expensive, you just have to do you due diligence in sourcing the right one for your budget.

What a complete pile of rubbish - straight out the PCA handbook of money making. A prong meter like that is designed for testing moisture content in wood. Salts will give a false reading for starters and the numbers tell you the type of damp, really, pull the other one?! How about using a carbide meter for real readings that won't call for a needless and damaging injected chemical DPC. If the ground levels are too high outside lower them, don't dig out air brick houses, you're restricting air flow yourself. Get a real survey done by Peter ward at Heritage House.

Oh is ere look mister doom n gloom, any time you want to meet me and talk about why you have such a chip on your shoulder you feel you have to spend your time trolling people, why waste your time watching if it’s upsetting you. Like Iv said before it’s going to be an interesting and uncomfortable time for you when the software comes out to identify you from your posts on here. I think it will be squeaky bum time for all the trolls not just you. 😉

@@dampsam I'm not a troll, nor would it be squeaky bum time - threatening me doesn't make you look very good. If you put the videos up you need to be prepared for people to comment negatively as well as positively.The point I'm making is that you went ahead and did work that quite clearly won't be the only remedy (likely not one at all). I realise you've got plenty of experience but the course to obtain the qualifications you so proudly display takes three days with no previous experience, three days to learn how to diagnose a raft of differing damp issues, fix them with toxic chemicals and not apply a single basic building theory or practice. Why inject a DPC when you can see (in another of your videos) that the ground levels are too high. You say to inject a DPC is quicker and easier, that's a little like cutting off a head for a headache, you solve the symptom but don't cure the problem. And before you ask what I know about buildings - I was responsible for the upkeep of 14th Century all the way up to modern buildings on a private abbey estate, both listed and unlisted. Never did I need to employ a chemical DPC to solve damp issues in either solid or cavity walls. I don't doubt you believe in what you do and I dare say you do it well but, I doubt a lot of whats done is really addressing the issue or necessary.

Simon Cooper HNC CSRT CSSW software already exist. It belongs to google. Google won’t be sharing that information to the average joe. Only mega companies can get hold of it. Even then I think it might be anonymised. But the other guy is right. Old damp proofing was for old buildings which meant letting the thing dry out through air ventilation. New building suite the new damp techniques. Problem starts when you start mixing them.
