@GoMandiMartin They are so freaking adorable. It has been so funny to see how they interact. Look how smart they are. They understand social cues from humans like it is their job. I have absolutely seen the same dogs in other videos. It was funny to see how they rule that stretch there. There was certain donkeys they didnt like and would push them through real fast. I love how you had them in your video. How could you not right?

@@JoeKyser Hey, Joe! Awwwwww! Isn't that so heartwarming haha. I wouldn't do the EBC again, but if I could borrow a teeny puppy for the duration of a different, shorter, lower-in-altitude trail -- oh my gosh, I would do it in a minute! That little tiny black puppy that was in Part 1 right before the first checkpoint: I would have scooped him up and taken him with me if I could have. But, I don't want to end up on the news as an animal smuggler haha. That's just bad for business 😁You are so right, Joe! Hm, that just got me thinking! How cool would it be if there was some kind of a system where trekkers could pick an unnamed animal and give it a name, and then, if another trekker came along and discovered an unnamed animal, then they got to name it -- and all of the trekkers from then on would know that animal's name. There could be a central log book, and the animals could be discovered and recorded as we do with new starts and planets! Ah, the possibilities!

Hi Mandi, Just want to congratulate you for recording this amazing experience. Most people avoid recording hardships during treks like these. I'm glad you covered it thoroughly. Me and my wife did the Annapurna Base Camp trek solo with no guide or porter in 2022. So i know how hard these hikes are but its worth doing it solo. I'm planning to do the EBC or Everest 3 pass trek this year and I have been binge watching all your Everest hiking videos last 2 days for research and got to say there aren't many with as much as details as yours especially about plane tickets and trek permits. I was just curious about one thing. Why didn't you do a acclimatization day in Namchee Bazaar? I think that could have been the reason why you felt tired. When i did the ABC both me and wife had the flu/colds and since we were carrying our bags we were like super slow but that in turn helped us acclimatize and i never felt tired and slept so good. I remember seeing many people with porters faster than us but they had AMS and had to come down fast as well. A common thing i heard from locals was the word "Slowly slowly". Both of us ate super heavy as well and drank lots of water , I don't know if that helped. I also noticed you said 10kg for check-in bag for the Lukla flight. Wasn't there an option for 5kg hand carry as well? Again much thanks for making all these videos. I'll be telling people to refer to these videos if they plan on hiking EBC.

Hi, Kevin! It's so nice to hear from you! Thank you so much for the lovely message, and I'm so overjoyed to hear that you are binge watching haha. You are so sweet; thank you for the congratulations. I'm so glad that you appreciate seeing the hardships. That's so awesome to hear about the trek you and your wife took in 2022 -- and even better, that you are planning another one! That's amazing! That's a very valid question about Namche Bazaar. I knew that stretch would be all uphill and very strenuous, and I thought it would be better to divide that section in half, i.e., only having to cover half the distance each day. Every step hurt so much, and I didn't want to put myself in the position of not feeling well enough to continue for the day while I was nowhere near lodging. Because I was alone, I wanted to be extra cautious. For me, this turned out great, and I'm so glad that I modified my plan. I finished in the normal 8 days, but I hiked much slower because I hiked shorter distances for all 8 days instead of longer distances for 6 days 😀 Hm, I just checked the website for the airline that I used, i.e., Yeti Airlines, and I see that different categories of tickets have different luggage allowances. My ticket allowed for only 10kg of checked luggage with no carry-on luggage. I don't remember if others on the flight had carry-on luggage, but the plane was so small, I'm not sure where it would go 😀 You are so sweet! Thank you so much, in advance, for sharing my videos 🎉 I can't wait to hear how your trip prep is progressing! Mandi

Hi, Gaurav! Thank you so much for taking the time to write and to share about your upcoming plans to trek. I'm so excited for you and your small group. I'm getting ready to release a whole video explaining how to legally trek solo, but (as least as of the middle of May) the quick answer is that you can buy a Trek Card that authorizes you to trek solo. I just went back and added timestamps into this video, and you can see the location where you purchase the card and what the card looks like at the timestamp titled, "Trek Card" at 5:25 😊 I hope this helps. I would suggest double checking the laws before you go just to be sure nothing changes. There's sadly a lot of misinformation circulating.

Just re-watched this one. Anyone who has crossed that bridge will never forget the experience. The climb to Namche was savage and I handicapped myself before the ascent, walking in on a wake for the legendary climber Babu Chiri. I'd been with his family in Traksindo the night he died, but news took a few days to come down the trail from Everest. Some Sherpas were toasting his passing with chang. Five or six toasts later I said I had to be going and they all laughed like crazy. Felt like a god for about an hour, the second hour wasn't great, and by Namche I wanted to die. I totally get the tears. There were days I lost it to the exhaustion, or to the beauty of what was I was seeing. Cried like a child on Kala Pathar, looking up at Everest. That trek is a quest and a pilgrimage rolled into one.

Hi, David! How are you today? Aw, I'm so honored! I get a "watched" and then a "re-watched" from you! That totally makes my day! Right! That bridge was unforgettable haha. Oh, my gosh - yes! I'm so glad that I broke the Namche trek down into 2 days; anyone that does it in one day is a true rock star! I've never heard of Babu Chiri or chang, so that's for mentioning this; I'll definitely look this up 😃 Oh, yes! If you did the trek without crying, then you didn't do the trek the right way :). Thank you for sharing all of that! I look forward to saying hi again soon.

David, oh my gosh! I just watched a short documentary on Babu Chiri. How heartbreaking! I can't believe all of the things that he accomplished, most notably that he build the first-ever school in his hometown. That has totally inspired me, and now I want to build a school 💗 It makes me cry when I hear of children that don't have schools 😟 And, the king at the time sent a message to his family after Babu's body was found. That's overwhelmingly special. And, while he was still alive, he was declared a national hero of Nepal! I'm in awe! Thank you so much for telling me about his, and that's even cooler now that you got to witness a part of that history. Thank you! I hope one day that a king or queen will declare me a national hero haha 💕

@@GoMandiMartin A truly remarkable man. His wife was a lovely lady and cooked a magnificent Sherpa stew the night I stayed there. His house in Traksindo was covered in photos of him on various peaks, including Everest, and letters from foreign governments thanking him for getting their climbers up the hill. His death was a huge deal in Nepal. The assassination of the Royal Family happened a month or so later, and that was some magnitudes worse. It was a ghastly thing to witness the effect on people. The two months I was there went to extremes of joy and tragedy. I kept a very detailed diary for the year I spent travelling, so these details remain very fresh. Go for it with the school. I built two in Cambodia. My family and friends funded them for ten years before we handed them over to the local people to run. I guess we gave over 1000 countryside children a start in learning English that they couldn't otherwise afford. There's a movie on KZbin somewhere about a project I worked on with a French friend I met in Cambodia. I'll try to send you the link. Another movie I'd recommend is 'Until They Are Gone.' Pretty sure it's still on KZbin. It's a tough watch because it deals with landmine clearance. Bill and Jill Morse, the 'stars' of the documentary - they'd hate being called that - are good friends of mine and the nearest I've come to meeting living saints. Proof positive there are some genuinely good people in this world. Best wishes from England. David

Hi, Rae! I hope that you are having a really great day. I have a quick update about the teahouse video: I filmed it yesterday, and I hope to have it ready in about 2 weeks. Until then, I jotted down the names of the specific teahouses and villages that I stayed in - just in case it's helpful 🌞 1. Phakding: Hotel Beer Garden 2. Monju: Buddha Lodge 3. Namche Bazaar: Khumbu Lodge 4. Tengboche: Hotel Himalaya 5. Pangboche: I can't remember this one. 6. Dingboche: Hotel Bright Star 7. Lobuche: Oxygen Altitude (This was my last night's stay before reaching the EBC. Most people stay in Gorekshep overnight before making their descent.) I'll see you again very soon! Mandi

Hi, Joe, and a huge welcome to my channel! I am so happy to have you here! You are the sweetest; thank you so much for such a lovely message -- and thank you for your kindness 🤩 You would actually do exceptional as a vegetarian! And did you see all of those gorgeous cows and chickens? Can't eat those cuties haha! It's actually suggested that meat not be eaten for the entire duration of the trek because the meat is carried up on pack animals -- and it's not refrigerated or kept clean on it's way up the mountain. You'd have quite the advantage with an already-vegetarian diet. If you decide to go, I hope you'll come back and tell me all about it, and I hope to see you next week for Part 2 of this video 😃

Thankfully, I'm nice and safe for now 😊Oh, I hate, hate, hate the cold, as you'll see in Part 2 of this video next week haha, so Base Camp is probably the highest that I will ever even consider venturing, and it's 5,364 meters. I'm watching your videos again from the beginning. May I ask why you had sore toes?
@GoMandiMartin2 ай бұрын
Hi, Kjellery! It's so nice to see you today. I hope you are doing well and staying warm. Oh yes, I had on stiff, leather hiking boots, and there were so many rocky downhills to go down that my toes kept slamming into the front of my boots. It's so painful, and it caused my toenails to bruise, turn black, and the two big toenails eventually fell off. You've probably heard of "Hiker's Toes," well, that was definitely a huge problem for me on the trek. I immediately threw those boots away when I got home, and I'm trying out shoes with softer, more flexible, and lighter toe boxes. Gosh, I think I had blocked that memory haha 😀It makes my day to hear that you are watching my videos again! 🎉 I really appreciate you!
@kjellery2 ай бұрын
@ nice to hear from you. Sorry I reminded you of hikers toes. I was wondering if your feet were jamming. I heard toe socks helps with that. I’m taking 2 pairs of shoes. I have scarps and Solomon. Not leather. I saw the hat you were wearing. I think you must have got it in Lukla but I like it. Hoping I can get something similar too
@GoMandiMartin2 ай бұрын
@@kjellery Good morning 🌞 Haha, aw yes, jammed toes for sure. I love toe socks, and I was actually wearing toe socks. They help keep the toes from rubbing together, but for me at least, they didn't provide much protection from jamming. You're so smart not to take any leather shoes :) That's great if you have room in your pack and your bag is under the weigh limit enough to carry a second pair of shoes, but man-made materials are so much lighter than leather and the really heavy soles that leather boots needs, so that makes sense. Aw, I have such fair skin and eyes that hats are a must. I have more hats than maybe any one person should haha. Hm, you can definitely buy a hat in Kathmandu, but they are known to be knock-offs and not the best quality. But, they will get you through the trek. The hat I'm wearing here in Part 1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2HOpGp_rpuFqM0si=yBU8YG1YYEqBUjAk&t=268 came from REI before I left 😃, and I bought this one (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWGoma1qj895otEsi=4maaxTzCnxACEeJY&t=92) from Amazon (they have other colors, too, so you don't have to hike in pink hehe (amzn.to/3CpEpgl). I think those were my only hats :) I think that at least one wide to medium brim sun hat and one heavier, 100% wool hat is perfect. The sun is so bright while it's freezing with lots of wind 🤪 I hope you have a great day! Mandi

Guides salary =3200 nrs =24$ per day. Which increased according to TAAN .Trekkers agencies nepal.😮its best to support tourism aspects. $24 == a change .. its risky to trek in monsoon.. p.s dont ask locals for how much time until you reach hotels.. they say 1 hr but it could take 2.5 hrs for you. They calculate time according to their pace..
