Gosh, that was a crazy adventure, and I sure did learn a lot: mostly, what not to do haha. But, hopefully the rest of the "EBC How To" etc. videos in my EBC Playlist are helpful. Hi, Victor! It's such a pleasure to hear from you; thank you so much for the very kind words. How exciting that you plan to do your own EBC trek in just over 6 months. I did my trek in the month of May, too, so it should be beautiful for you. I had a hard time finding the permit purchase counter during my trek, but I thought the counter would be at the very start of the trek. Instead, the counter is immediately before you enter the first National Park. If you are interested, I have a video that walks through everything related to the Trek Card, i.e., the permit, including how to find the counter and buy your tickets, etc., and that video link is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIPcYZ-Bhplnnc0si=51lYJA93vh03vukN I have lots of other video tutorials on the EBC trek, and that playlist link is: kzbin.info/aero/PL0nXtGFdRxjhF5ZEXl1t7rHYqKbi_Qv9h&si=FtNwu5tkKxSYt2VY I really hope this helps, and I'm happy to help if you have any more questions. Thanks Mandi ! I think you would have had a more fun and interesting time if you’d hiked high and slept low to acclimatise. That’s why we stay a couple of nights in one place. Hiking at 4-5000+m is nothing like walking at home. Altitude sickness is serious stuff and to anyone watching this to get an idea of how to plan, I would get a real 1:50000 map and make sure you take time to acclimatise, not climbing more than 3-400m of altitude per day. It’s a shame you were so sick on your trek (been there, it’s horrible ! Just one night was enough for me). It was so brave of you to do the trek and you got there but it didn’t look like you had much fun on the way. Btw it’s possible to hire an Assistant Guide who will carry your pack and help you with the route / sickness etc. You don’t have to always be together if you want to walk alone. And it means employment for the Nepalese which is really important. 3 Sisters is a women led company with female guides, assistant guides and porters which gives employment to Nepalese women All that said, well done and thanks for taking time to explain everything. Blessings xx

@@kjellery Hi! It's great to see you again 😃 I'm so sorry about my delay; I thought that I responded last week, but now I don't see my response 🙈 That is such a great question. I had taken some over the counter pain reliever pills with me, and taking those consistently, i.e., taking the next dose before the current dose had a chance to wear off, helped a bit. There honestly wasn't too much that I could do. There were some days when the elevation dipped lower, and I did feel a bit better briefly. Also, I hiked slower and hiked for 8 days straight instead of hiking for 6 days over an 8 day period. With this, planning my route carefully really helped. Hi, Herman! It's so nice to hear from you. Please forgive my delay as I've been traveling :). Thank you for your very kind comment; I'm so glad that you found me here. Here's the answers to your questions: 1. Well, I had planned to do lots of hiking the few months prior to the trip, but the wind, and rain, and cold changed my mind. At that time, I had no idea just how cold it would be as I got higher up towards Base Camp. I also got really busy with the planning, prepping for, and packing for the trip that little time was left for anything else. I planned for about 6 months, and still barely had time to sleep. With that, I didn't actually get to train before going. But, it's not as physically demanding as it is a struggle without much oxygen. 2. For the most part, I found my way around by looking at a lot of general maps of the trails before I left, by following the signs on the trail (though some of those sent me in the wrong direction), and by asking the porters as they passed. In case it's helpful, I have a video on how to plan your route: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGTZimOQr8qGnsUsi=A9ZgZJCG_RmlKBGz 3. Honestly, I have no idea how I survived that cold; it was awful! But, I think that having the right clothing is the key. I hope to have a video out about how to chose the right clothing soon :) I really hope this helps, and I hope to see you again here very soon, Mandi

Wondering how you managed with out guide. Are there any trail maps that you can use on phone? I heard Google maps are are a disaster and no GPS signal.

Hi, AK! It's so nice to hear from you. Please forgive my delay as I have been traveling :) Ah, yes. So, I looked at lots of online maps and tried to memorize the names of the villages and their relative locations, etc. before I left home, and I stopped and found a porter to ask if I needed help figuring out which way to go. There are signposts, but they aren't as often as I think they should be, they are sometimes confusing. You are right about no GPS, so I didn't even try to use my phone as trying to get a connection wasn't really much of an option. You can purchase a wifi SIM card, and they work for 24 hours, but for me, I didn't think it was necessary. If it's helpful, and if you haven't already seen it, I have a video on how to plan to your route: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGTZimOQr8qGnsUsi=cv_84PHKyjz22uE6 I think that if you route is well planned, then you can ask the local village people or porters that you pass to point you in the direction of the village where your next stop is; they will know the way :) I really hope this helps, and I hope to see you again here very soon. Thanks for the video! Helped with our research for campsites on a planned kayak trip on the Potomac with my pup. Looks pretty easy to drag a kayak up from the river to camp...that's what I was wondering

Hi, Willow! It's so nice to hear from you 😀 I am so jealous; I have been dying to do a kayak camping trip, but I'm still learning to kayak. I think this would be a great place for that. Wishing you an amazing trip! Mandi

@GoMandiMartin Thanks! From what I can tell, this does look to be a calm stretch of river for beginners (like Willow and I!) so we shouldn't get in to too much trouble in our inflatable kayak (hopefully). Btw, we're no kayaking experts and plan to just float along and paddle some. We'll probably share our trip on Willow's channel to help others trying to do a similar kayak/camp trip. Take care!

@@WillowWalksTheAT Hi! Oh my gosh: it's so cute that Willow has his/her own channel. That is totally how I would do it haha; i.e., floating down a calm river 😄 Do you like your inflatable kayak? It's great that you and Willow are so brave! 🍀🍀

@GoMandiMartin We had a great time (and survived!). The Costco inflatable kayak did well and packed up nicely to fit in the car (no roof rack needed). Your Antietam Creek vid was very useful for planning...helped us know what to expect. We just posted this vid and referenced your's in the description for anyone looking to visit that campsite (or try a kayak trip). If you're looking to try a kayak/camp trip, we think this is a safe option. Take care! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJKwqKKtrdBliLssi=LaAw2d2csR0GThHU
