On this trip to Nepal, I was able to fulfill a bucket list trip, which was to take a crack at trekking to Everest Base Camp. We went at the end of May and that corresponded to the end of the climbing season. Our group of four opted to make the trip without a guide. And we had about half the time as most package trips recommend. This video documents the whole experience from flying to Lukla from Kathmandu - and eventually back to Kathmandu. If you are considering making a trip to Nepal to trek, this will give you a good idea about what you might encounter. Chomolungma (in Tibet) in the Sagarmatha National Park (Nepal)

Hiking to base camp makes a lot more sense than trying to summit Everest.

Yes possible, but a really bad idea for most who are not used to acclimitising to 5'500m on a regular basis. Really not worth the risk of HAPE or HACE. Don't do it.

Im so excited....Im now 67 years old and Im finally going to live out the #1 thing on my bucket list since 1970...EBC. !!! This November 2018 my dream comes true. Having done this trek myself and talking to a helicopter rescue pilot ( who plucks people off everest and the valley leading up to it) doing this trek in 7 days is asking for trouble. To do it safely you need to (at the very least) take 2 days aclimatising on the way up to reduce the risk of developing AMS. Our Pilot suggested that even the 11 day treks are not long enough - and judging by the continuous helicopters up and down the valley lots of people get sick. As they say on Jackass - Dont try this at home kids

you are a workhorse, you've got stamina , porters do carry heavyweights some double their body weight taking into account they live there all their lives, I respect them as well , for yourself being a native westerner , and accomplishing what you do,...i must respect you too sir.

I remember doing this trip back in the early 90's. It's all the same, as I remember. If I would go today, well let's say I don't have enough money. Millions

Wow. Just wow. The cliché, "If Kerry is breathing hard, he must be climbing Everest," remains intact. That's why its a cliché. Two and a half hours, and interesting every step of the way. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The Helicopters are usually carrying trekkers suffering from altitude sickness and need to get to hospital. Severe altitude sickness can be fatal and trekkers die up there frequently.
