This lecture is extraordinary. Venables is a great storyteller and to hear him talk about this incredible 4 man effort to climb the Kangshung Face of Everest, in what is undoubtedly one of the greatest and toughest ascents and routes ever undertaken on Earth's highest mountain, is simply mesmerizing. My only "complaint" is that it could be at least twice as long, with all the details left out here due to the time constraints. However, if you want/need to hear more about this amazing expedition, as I did, pick up Venables' Everest: Alone at the Summit and Webster's Snow in the Kingdom. Both are excellent. To further emphasize what an important and fascinating talk this is, and the sheer gravity of what the Alpine Club represents and its legendary members, Sir Chris Bonington stands at the end and gives Stephen the ultimate compliment. I can't help but wonder who else was in the room this evening. Marvelous stuff! Thanks for sharing!

A wonderful lecture. I particularly enjoyed the reverence Stephen has for the trailblazers of the 20's and 30's, so much, in fact, that it makes up the bulk of his talk. Everest past, present and future combined in an inviting and illuminating telling.

Very interesting. I was wondering, how come you folks never include any of the stories of the sherpas? I think that their stories would be just as or even more interesting since they live there and probably were surprized that anyone would want to climb those mountians.

Sound is good for me - with a bit volume up but without any strong boost. I don't think the problem is on our side. Please check if your sound is working on other YouYube videos; if so then I don't have any good suggestions. Sorry. - Michael (AC)

It'd be interesting if Mallory summited Everest.I'm not 100% sure Hillary/Norgay reached the peak.[ lack of proper photographic evidence ].

67 years old and attempting a K2 summit? I would question if that was a sensible thing to do but I guess at least he died doing what he loved.
