@EverestMystery, Recently I saw that one fella who has both his legs amputated. (I believe they were both AK ( Above Knee amputations) With his prosthetics he successfully climbed Everest. Just Amazing, I can hardly believe such a feat would be possible, Especially during that section where I've seen people using that ladder? Not to go up, but rather going across! That's just insane. Isn't it practically certain, that Mallory and Irvine were seen at ~ 8710 and not ~ 8500 meters? I mean it's almost certain, that they were last seen allive crossing the third step, as 1st and 2nd step were not visible from Odell's location. It would also almost match the initial planned timeline.
@EverestMystery4 ай бұрын
I was never one to believe they were seen at the third step (which was not called the Third Step in 1924). Nothing is even remotely certain that they were seen there. The thinking that they were seen on the ridge right at the final pyramid at what we now call the Third Step is flawed in the thinking of many Everest historians. That said, it's a fascinating mystery and really cool to debate... Thanks for your thoughts, great having you here. Do check out the Mallory & Irvine playlist on the channel.
@kacperrutkowski63504 ай бұрын
@@EverestMystery thanks for reply, I've checked it. As for the debate on which step they were seen I think there is quite a lot evidence that they were seen at the third step, but I may be wrong here - I would say, that the arguments for here were mostly; - the selected route - before summit attack Mallory stated, that if the winds were strong they would take the so-called 'zig-zag route' (which is almost certain that they followed). That route did skip both first and second step. - From Odell's location first step was fully covered by other parts of the mountain, so he couldn't see them there. - Second step couldn't be climbed in a few minutes, even if they were following the modern ridge route instead of planned zig-zag (which is exetremely unlikely) - Odell in his report mentioned snow field. There were images taken during 2024 expenditions in which the location of the 'last step but one' in respect to snow field only match 3rd step. Also under assumption that they did summit (which imo seems plausible just because they died) the hour seen on Mallory's mechanical watch in that location would almost exactly match their expected pace.
@EverestMystery4 ай бұрын
@@kacperrutkowski6350 excellent insight, and thank you. Yes, having spoken to many who've been there and having scoped the couloir up above (from below) myself, albeit at an oblique angle, the first person experiences in that area point to the fact that there would not be a reason to take the so-called route starting with a 'z'....from sea level it might seem feasible, though. Odell's final sighting: I always defer to Jake Norton, who is the only person who has ever been able to make sense about these facts...and, I have to add, has always done it in a spirit of openness to any and all scenarios. Cheers and thanks for being here!
@kacperrutkowski63504 ай бұрын
@@EverestMystery Thanks for yours reply. As for the 'zig-zag' route I think we would have to think as the people from 1924, as modern gear makes a lot of difference - it offers two main advantages when compared to other routes. First one is that it's almost directly in sunlight for most of the time. Second one is that it's much more shielded from the wind than anything else. While it's not the easiest with the modern gear, 100 years ago the clothes weren't nearly as warm as they're today. And that route was the best one to avoid hypothermia (and potential frostbite). I also think Norton's report isn't nearly as important as direct testimony of a witness, but that's (probably) just my opinion here.

The chinese summit of 1960 needs a giant asterisk on it. They've never allowed anyone to inspect their "summit" rocks. At best the Chinese summit is unconfirmed and at worst its a blatant lie. If we're going to count the Chinese summit then we may as well count the summit of Mallory and Irvine too.

The Chinese succeeded. That's long been put to rest....but would make for a great video!

@@EverestMystery YES, it’s easy. You can get a helicopter to take you to the base camp. One guy put his ski on point, for 3 minutes, in 2005. But, you can fly to base camp and walk to the peak. When something becomes commercially based, where’s the fun? Trekkers used to plan years to do it. People take cameras and record everything, there aren’t many places on the planet that haven’t been explored. The ocean floor is about the last place man hasn’t been explored, by man. But, technology is getting better. We’ve sent a drone to another planet. We’ve screwed up this planet so now we’re going to find another one to exploit. Artists? A person can buy a machine and program it to make the most beautiful things. Then, others start doing, until, everything you ever thought up, in your imagination, can be brought to life! Writers? AI can generate hundreds of books, per day. Why do you think Hollywood writers are striking? AI doesn’t need the human interaction, nobody wanting higher pay and more power. Actors? AI can create an artificial actor. AI can create voices.

If you guys are diluted enough to believe these were the first climbers … you need help. And prob still think people “ discovered America” 😂 I’m sure natives had summit many times before … these were simply the first WESTERNERS or major countries…
@EverestMystery Жыл бұрын
No....this is the misconception. The western climbers were the first to think that man SHOULD be on the top of a mountain like Everest. The local people believed that these summits were the abode of gods, and reserved for the gods, and that anyone who climbed to the top would be met with death. They simply didn't care, and to me THAT is awesome.
