Sherpas deserve soo much credit, without them , the climb means nothing. Sherpas respect the mountain, and listen to her when she speaks.

I think because death is the one thing in life that is certain, and dying while someone is trying to achieve their dream seems better than slowly dying in front of their TV at home, as it's considered that they were living their best life.

I don't mean this in a cruel way, but I find it hard to feel bad for people who lose their lives on Everest. There are plenty of dead bodies around them and still they keep coming in large numbers as if it couldn't happen to them. How long and how many deaths have to happen before people realize Everest is only for the few and not the many. Even the best climbers meet their fate in the attempt. Ignorance is plenty with those who only think of reaching the summit. The summit is only half the journey with the descent the other half that is the most difficult. Reaching the summit is difficult while the descent is worse. So tired of hearing the importance of summitting and no mention of the descent. So much conversation about Mallory possibly being the first to summit, but he did not make it back down leaving the trip unsuccessful. Hillary and Tenzing first reached the summit and return alive. Sherpas were not there to pamper them like they do today. They will always deserve the glory as the first to conquor Everest.

Why do they use south side to climb? Chinese side (North)is much easier. You can take your car to the Chinese base camp where as you have to walk 5 days to get to the Nepalese base camp.
@Ali-7676
@Ali-7676 3 жыл бұрын
The North side is only easy at the beginning vs the south side which is more difficult at the beginning but gets easier (in terms of technical mountaineering and weather conditions). In the North you can get to basecamp easier, but then have to deal with the 3 Steps under colder conditions with high winds. On the south, it's a long way to base camp, them the treacherous Khumbu icefall, but then it becomes a fairly straightforward walk up until the Hillary step, which has basically collapsed making the south side easier still. And it's the South face so it's warmer with lower winds.

What annoys me the most about docos like these is the outpouring of moral indignation by bloated keyboard warriors who have no concept of the environment they are talking about. I walked the Annapurna circuit a few decades ago and finished every day with a bag of garbage I had picked up along the way. I am by no means unique. The solution to the Everest garbage problem is to tax the climbing fees and employ locals. Win win!
@shroomiestshroom3655
@shroomiestshroom3655 3 жыл бұрын
yet it doesn't change the fact you caused major pollution just to get there, unless planes, and buses run on fresh air? you cant claim your some sort of environmental warrior for picking up a few bags of trash, when you caused un fixable pollution through fossil fuels just to get there. The air pollution is a much more serious problem than a few bags of trash on a mountain no one can live on.
