Everett Dirksen discusses the meaning of the term "the long, hard furrow" that he used in multiple speeches to refer to progress on civil rights during nearly 200 years of American history. He also offers an explanation of the representative system of government and discusses the constitutional history behind slavery and civil rights. The presentation was given during his weekly update to constituents at the beginning of June 1964.
