Ironically people are so rarely attacked by them. Most of the time the person is in deep water splashing about at night in a river. I have lived in the deep south all my life and I have yet to see them get aggressive with me while fishing near them. I've seen them get agitated but never aggressive. Young ones like to bluff and hiss at ya. Older fat ones kinda just growl alittle bit if your too close to a momma. If a young one is acting like a little s*** just throw a rock at his snout and he will piss off then and there

I manage a plant nursery in North Florida. We have a black racer here. I call him my buddy and get excited every time I see him. I know he's keeping me safe and thank him. I've only ever seen blind snakes and baby corn snakes, even in the brushiest areas, so I know he's helping out. I like my buddy. I leave him be, but appreciate when he shows he's still around.
