It seems that it was made to be mainly carried by the handle from home to car and from car to office, and that carrying it on the shoulder for long distances was a complete afterthought. Both from the looks perspective and the comfort perspective. Looks absolutely terrible when worn crossbody, looks good when carried by the handle. I love the doctor bag style opening, but I don’t think that the way the shoulder strap is tied on the buckles is doing the bag any favors when it’s worn crossbody, the wings sorta make it look even bulkier. And the winges are kinda necessary for the doctor bag opening that I like. I like it when companies take risks like that, but I think they could have taken all of those risks and mitigated the downsides way more than they did.

the Doctor's Bag style opening if you have it unbuckled is just such a cool design, that alone would have convinced me that this is brief I should check out-- were it not for the fact that I know within the year, evergoods will rerelease some kind of crossover special edition with materials and fabric that I'll like far, far more than the base model

@Nomads.Nation13 күн бұрын
yea dude the bulk is real. I think it's a perfect car-briefcase. Makes sense since it was designed in Bozeman, not a lot of people taking the train to work there lol

in their release video, they do talk about how it's basically the design of their duffel just scaled down.

Fairly bold of them to call it a transit bag when it's somewhat unfriendly to, uh, transit. It's really pushing the limit or over for most US airlines on what can stow under a seat. It'll work fine while on a train or bus, but I'd hate to have to walk more than a city block with those carry options. A car ride with no more than a few steps from one's destination is ideal. (Also, they made a briefcase alternative that is, um, less accessible than an old school briefcase???) Seems like a passion project that made it (with little input) to the masses for consumption. I don't hate it, but it appears to be impractical for anyone other than large-body folks who love the brand.

Speaking about bulky, I recently visited the Aer showroom in San Francisco and got a chance to look at a variety of their bags IRL. The materials are robust and are well made, but I got the feeling that all their bags are about 10-15% bigger and bulkier than what I would consider optimal. The City Tote was YUGE for EDC, and I felt the gym duffel was just a bit on the busy side. Pack it all out with a laptop and gym gear, and you have one massive and heavy bag The Bellroy designs I’ve had seem more sleek and almost petite in comparison to me.
@Nomads.Nation10 күн бұрын
yup, Aer bags are very overbuilt, which some people love (extra durability and comfort) and some people hate (extra bulk and weight)
