No external water bottle holder is a deal breaker for me. Not so much to hold a water bottle, but an umbrella. If I have to open a main compartment of a bag to get an umbrella, then everything inside is at risk at getting wet while I do so. No, thanks.

Great review!! I'm researching a new travel sling bag, and after seeing the lack of security zipper in the back pocket, I'll look at something else. On Amazon, as of Nov 2024, the capacity is listed as 32L for the main compartment, and 8L for other compartments. And is on sale for Black Friday at $64US. At that price, I might just get one. I'd prefer an Aer Travel Pack 3, but that's $200 US more, and I'm not sure how often I would use this size bag ... I probably only need this size maybe twice a year, and then not on flights, but via train. And I don't travel with a laptop, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I have already written once that the bright orange color of the lining or the decent yellow interior has made me aware of backpacks and bags again. In this context, „EVERKI“ was the company that used this on a large scale about 15 years ago fristly as I can remember. I also noticed the British company “Briggs & Riley”. As someone who is interested in and buys these products, I would like to know why you hardly mention these high-quality bags in your videos: “Tumi”, ‘Briggs & Riley’ and Everki. When you grab the pack with the top handle, do you feel that “wrapping material” around the handle tends to “overfit” the handle, thus creating a flimsy feeling when grabbing? I think AER used excessive wrapping nylon around the top handle, hence the flimsy feeling.

Pro Tip - I put a 2” thick piece of dense foam in backpacks without false bottoms. Never an issue.

How does this compare to the Able Carry Max EDC are far as comfort?

To me, a small pack with a 'shoe compartment' is a mismatch.

I have one of their apex backpacks and loved it until the flap on the laptop compartment kept causing the zipper to rub and get stuck causing the interior material to fray. They said that it's wear and tear and while I wasn't expecting a brand new bag, for the price I expected better quality.

A+ review, seriously considering this one. I'm really more interested in the Fyro sling, but waiting for an update on timeline for that one. Have you done a review on the Thule waxed canvas Aion Sling Bag? Pack Hackers did a B tier review on it, but I really only trust Nomads Nation for my bag reviews.

Nice backpack! One question: when a company says "a 22L backpack" for example, is it talking about the capacity of the main compartment or of the sum of the capacities of all the comparments (main + tech + front for example)?

The Ctb line is my fave evergoods backpack design, but I still don’t love its looks, something about the shape and high riding depth bother me. I’m not super into the one sided vertical external pocket. I more into standing access, vs side swinging I guess.

The shape sort of reminds me of the wandrd duo, just the zippers don’t go all the way down. I do like that shape with the zipper at the top edge as if you are going to have a laptop sleeve on the main compartment it makes access super easy.

Hey! What would you recommend for a low budget EDC bag that looks nice and has a good laptop compartment? I’m currently rocking an old Jansport which I love but it’s complete lack of any laptop protection is becoming a real issue for me.

For a strict travel only bag with no need for laptop, less pockets is better, even better without the laptop compartment and instead contribute the laptop litre into the main section, so u can pack more into it

This bag doesn’t really make sense. The central compartment simply exists to accommodate the shoe compartment - why? This isn’t a gym bag. If you use it for travel your shoes go in a duffel not your backpack Also the 1/2 opening clamshell looks very out of place. Potential damage to the zip and limits access inside - makes 0 sense For the price this is a big miss IMHO
