Wow!! A true blast from the past! Loved the book and the miniseries! Thanks for uploading this. Hope you get a chance to upload the entire thing...would love to see it in its entirety again.

For me, the most haunting part of the book (omitted from the mini-series) was the chapter about Maury visiting his grandmother, and feeling disgusted by the "ruined, old, old thing"...then Joseph showed him an ancient photo of a lovely-looking girl in old-fashioned clothes.

At least in this mini TV series they were given a chance to have happy ending In the book, Anna chose to stay & they never got married. Paul went on to live on his own Iris never knew that her real father was Paul---the ending in Belva Plains book is really tragic but realistic
@deannamorgan75865 жыл бұрын
Agreed...I adored the book, but sooooo wanted her to go off with Paul and live her final years with the one she'd loved since she was a girl. Sigh. But, in the book, Belva gave you hints that this would not happen..remember the part when Joseph, on his deathbed, was reflecting about his beloved Anna and his adored daughter, Iris, his " Queen"....he knew, deep down, I think, that she was not his daughter, but he could never bring himself to confront Anna, as it would crush his world...Anna knew this, so she could never take that away from him, even in death, by telling Iris the truth....

@@deannamorgan7586 I read the series a long time ago but I could have sworn at some point Anna tells Iris Paul was her father.

@@adelissahunsley I just read over all 4 books and on the 5th and last one "Heartwood". I loved Paul, but no Anna never told Iris. Anna and Paul died without ever telling her. But I suspect Iris husband Theo will tell her, Paul had told him. I noticed many mistakes and omissions in the other books though. In Evergreen Paul had a sister, in the other books she was never mentioned and it was implied he was on only child. There were others as well. For stand alone books they were ok but for the continuation story with 5 books, alot did not tie in properly. Still it is one of the best love story in books ever!
@adelissahunsley3 жыл бұрын
@@rashelelashley I remember now, after Anna was dead, Leah told Iris more or less and it says she felt lighter because nothing important had changed. Joseph Friedman had been her father etc. but her suspicions had been validated and she finally understood her mother.

I love going over Armand Assante's miniseries and movies, he"s really one of the best actors in Hollywood. I just hate the story when his character dies🤧

Eric no tuvo ningún hijo, ellos jamás conocieron a Juliana, siento que no le hace ninguna justicia al libro, la actriz que hace a Anna no se acerca a la belleza que el libro menciona de ella.

What works for me is to see the movie first and then read the book. I fell in love with this mini-series, but then again, I'm a big fan of Armand Assante, besides me being a genealogist, who appreciates "the olden days in New York City." Thanks so much for uploading what you did. I think I'm going to have to buy the videos on Amazon (hopefully).

I disllie your use of the phase Olden Days in New York, I think of it as an immigrant experience which my late Grandparents were how numb

Today I learned of the existence of Harvest, and Heartwood. Apparently, there's a little girl called Katie; was she deliberately named after Joseph's Polish mother (the lady who suffered so much from the ravages of age *shudder*)?

Was Belva Plain a fan of Anne of Green Gables? The "green" in the title makes me wonder; plus the fact that the heroine's a redhead, with a similar name to "Anne".

There are actually 5 or 6 books about the Werners and Friedmans and they are all so good that I've read them multiple times! Evergreen (1978) Golden Cup (1986) Tapestry (1988) Harvest (1990) Heartwood (2011) I'm pretty sure Crescent City is part of it as well...Paul's grandmother and great grandmother. I would like to see mini-series of them all! Vermont Movie Store has Evergreen for purchase on DVD
