I remember Wally Wachtel - highly respected lead guitarist who toured with Stevie Nicks on her solo tours - saying on a KZbin documentary that Don Everly was the best lead singer of ANY rock group… and that no musician would disagree with that. It was due, I think, to Don’s versatility- his ability to sing raunchy rock numbers as well as passionate ballads, and the pitch-perfect, soft, sexy tone to his voice.

I was at the taping of this show Nashville Swing which was taped at the Hotel Triumph in Toronto. On this occasion Don brought Harry Robinson up as his lead guitarist. It was a closed set with taped applause 👏 and Don was in great voice. Everyone went into the hotel bar afterwards for a glass or two.

Both Phil and Don were heavenly perfection. Loved both their voices and Phil had the softest speaking voice I could listen to until eternity. Their mother made beautiful children. Very sad to lose them. RIP Phil and Don as i am still mourning losing the most handsome singing duo. Don the sexy one for me.

Where were we when this absolute pro was trying a come back. Paul McCartney was right : This guy was at the absolute epi center of American music and world music. His talent is absolutely outrageous. We are all lucky to have lived in a country that produced from the juices of its soil such a beautiful and great genius. Never heard this before. Thanks very much for posting it. This is a gem. Love the way Don refashions his performance of this. Not only altering the way the song is presented, but treating us to a way he uses his voice that differs from his early recordings - at least to my ears. It makes me want to hear more of Don solo, which I didn't expect to be as interesting as this is.

If Don was so great, why wasn't his solo career better??!!! The one song he sang “Yesterday just passed my way again” I’ll admit Don sounded good by himself!!! But, Phil had several songs that he sang alone that we're equally as good!!! ❤️

sueadt8421 - It's not, "if Don was so great." Don really was great. He could change a melody ten different ways and never miss the right note. Phil was great too. He could follow all of Don's variations and never miss the right note. Phil's solos, "Patiently," "Friends," and "The Words in Your Eyes" leave me breathless. Their combined greatness and their destiny as a musical duo can never be equaled. I believe that fact was written in heaven before the world began.

Actually I'm not native English speaker, n difficult to comprehend some lyrics sometimes. This is extremely beautiful song !! Love Don's singing. But I’m so sorry I cannot get the true meaning of this song. Title n tone seem to me to be sort of aching. But verse itself look somewhat indicating “happy ending”... Will the love sung here be lasting hereafter ? Or is this something temporary ? Or is this only bitter delusion ? Is there anybody who can tell this song is about “happy love” or “bitter love” ??
