Vray for 3ds max needs sky presets that work with sun+sky. HDRI and sun combo is so awkward. I just use sun and sky with a hdri in reflection environment slot.

Can anyone explain why chaning expression to -z ? What if it still z?

If it's Z environment rotates the oposite direction when u rotate sun target
