Always remember this game [was in the away seats] for a class bit of sportsmanship from Pat Nevin who retrieved a ball after being flagged offside and ran a quarter of the pitch to retrieve it and obviously his goal too

I was about to post that I must've been there because I had a season ticket but I couldn't remember it, right up until Nevin's goal then that and his cross for the goal. DCL should look at that one on one and take note

How since Fergie came he transfer Utd become power house. This time everton Is the force of English football with Liverpool. But since Fergie retired ole change back man Utd to back to square one. We must stop him before its to late.

..any evertonians explain why the large bank of terracing at the Park End, to the left was reduced to a narrow bank as we see in this vid.? seems to have been altered around 1980. why?

Greg AVFC 69/70 Jones - because united didnt bring enough fans to fill the park end so parts of it were cordoned off......we still do it in the away end now in the bullens road

..thanks Kev, but if you look at the many TV games pre-1980, there used to be a much larger bank of terracing going much further back under the seated stand above. After 1980, this suddenly became a narrow strip of terracing with a very low crowd capacity, seems odd.

I made a similar comment on one of Everton's early 70's game recently and I received a reply pointing out that there were only 3 exits which you can see on most of their vids. and so the Park End was deemed unsafe as fans would not be able to leave that section safely in the event of an emergency. In effect, you would have a very serious bottleneck at those 3 exits if there was a mad rush/stampede to get out. I would have thought that the cost to put things right would have been minimal and the original Park End could have been retained.

After a yearly inspection the old Park End stand wasn't structurally sound to support the upper seating area, so they built a supporting wall across the width of it. It remained in place until the new Park End stand was built.
