Guys, sorry I forgot to say it in the video, but at 03:50 , you have to remove the creasing by pressing SHIFT + E + Numpad -1. If you want your corners to stay sharp, add a bevel with a shape of 1 !

Been a 3d generalist hobbyist for 20 years. Been taking CG jobs for the last five years. There are those that can model, those that model well, and then there are these guys...I'm honestly super curious--if you looked at, say, a senior modeler at Arcane Studios, would they all know these tricks and techniques? What about a junior level modeler? I'm mainly talking about the topology techniques. It's like an artist who ain't that bad, going on Artstation, and seeing the competition. It can hurt. lol. Anyway. Amazing tips. Thanks.

Thanks for your comment. Yes of course any senior modeler know these techniques. I don't know about juniors, I suppose they don't know everything. Yeah, don't compare your work with other people, try to get better today than you were yesterday. That's all that matter!

You’re so knowledgeable of how to correct topology issues most beginners run into. I wish you had a course, as most of the ones I’ve found just seem to portray their way as the correct or best without truly teaching why. I could definitely use something like that. I often wonder if I’m even doing things correctly when I’m following someone else’s advice.

I am not trying to hate here or anything just curious. Why do we need so much topology on a flat surface shown in first fix? Isn't it better to just wipe those edges inside and leave it as single face reducing topology?
@ThomasColin3D
@ThomasColin3D 2 ай бұрын
Hey man, no worries I was waiting this kind of questions! It's because the first part is a small detail on a bigger model. It has to have more subdivision to be able to be connected with the other parts. I don't know if that makes sens ? It does in my head 😂. And because it's a subd model, it needs some loops to handle the surface tension!

Same here, awesome comfy colors and usability, I'd like to try this theme too, but for anyone who want to push it further, I recommend to toggle on "Face oriention" by default and set front faces alpha to 0. I am so sorry, very off topic and probably boring but this question reminded me the story my grandfather told me once. He had to learn ALGOL programming language as a part of his university degree but back then there was only one working computer in the country so nobody but members of The Institute of Computational Mathematics were allowed to get close to it. So he learned it by writing down codes teacher wrote on blackboard. Later, he worked as an engineer in rather prominent national car company in Communist Czechoslovakia so when the party decided it's time to computerized the key industries with newly mass produced middle sized computers, his workplace was among the first. It used Basic already but of course, it was pretty expensive toy so nobody would dare to invite engineers with their dangerously curious minds to play with it. So he had to learn Basic language, again without even touching the machine. Another 30-35 years he worked as the car engine developer only with pencil, drawing board and paper, never touched computer until he bought his own PC in 90s. Not even cared about it until then. Even after approx. 50 years since his forced code learning begun, he was still able to explain core principles of Algol and its main differences from Fortran and wrote down and explain fundamentals of Basic with some codes as an example. So - finally the fairytale wisdom coming - never underestimate the power of simple pencil and paper and ancient art of hand-written notes. If they could make a junior programmer from the person who saw computer, if ever, from the safe distance of long office room divided by few hardened glass windows it can do all kind of miracles.

@@ThomasColin3D The tutorial is great, i just found it funny the way that you stopped after saying they failed to do the topology on the boolean.

Not bad but never use creasing. Ever.

@@NzeRekoRec It's been over 30 years now. As the head of CG at several of the biggest studios in the UK. Not grown out of it yet. An alpha and beta tester for both softimage and autodesk. A developer at Avid. Worked on maybe 800 broadcast productions. 100 plus music videos. Probably less than 20 feature films though. Taught CG at the national film and television school at beaconsfield for a few years. Just how much frontline 3d studio years do you have? I am so tired of seeing beginners and hobbiests teaching other beginners and hobbiests crappy techniques. This video is most certainly one of the better ones. But i see deep understanding of CG dissapearing because blender users dont have access to the solutions to the problems we solved 10+ years ago.

@ianmcglasham Good for you! I'm not here to downplay any of your credentials or achievements. Clearly, you are more experienced than me...but what does that have to do with the topic. There are absolutely uses for creasing even if you think it's bad tecnic to achieve results you want to see. Have a nice one anyway 👍

Perhaps you have clearly more experience @@ianmcglasham, but what I understood in my short professional life its that every tool has its uses, crease its usefull in some scenarios, you just need to know where you can use it.
