DaVinci Resolve also can do a lot of what After Effects AND Audition do. Another option for PDF editing is Foxit Reader. About the only editing that I think you would need in the paid version is combining and splitting PDFs (PDF Sam can handle that part). Security features, watermarking, adding text fields, etc are all there.

Google Docs will open your PDF as an editable "word" document that you can edit and then resave as a PDF.

At this point "Penpot" is the best XD alternative imo. You should check it out! Penpot is open source and just got out of beta.

Audacity is a bit gimped in front of audition but at least you are no longer paying to not owning your software

The best one that even beats Animate in a lot of ways is Tahoma2d it has raster(pixels) and vector node-based compositor(vfx) light rigging(not that complex) and more would highly reccomend
