I try to formulate an in-universe reason for his shift in expressiveness/overall demeanor between the movies and the clone wars. Perhaps he was a lot more stressed in the events of episodes 2 and 3 which made him more hopeless/vulnerable/devoid of emotion in times of great tragedy.

But during Clone Wars he was able to reach his potential in powers and focus on the battles so got more mature, confident, heroic and charismatic. Those traits passed over to the beginning of Revenge of the Sith as well as seen during battle of Couracant ("This is where the fun begins", "I'm gonna go help them out", "I say Patience", "General Grevious you're shorter than I expected", "Now we're really picking up speed!") But he fell back to his insecurities when he found out Padme is pregnant, and when he began to have nightmares again.

The mask was specially designed by palpatine to keep anakin closed up and isolated 100% of the time so he'd have more anger to unleash, he was always able to take it off, and yes the respirator is attached to the mask but that could be altered easily if palpatine wasn't in charge.

These are tips I’ve made for fighting Villains as an Arc Trooper in Star Wars Battlefront 2 Dooku-Tough but can be handled as long as I watch that force lightning. Shock mines work great against him, once he’s stunned LIGHT ‘EM UP!!! Grevious-that crawl and lunge attack is bullshit but he can be handled with a good few charged shots to blast through his defenses and wear him down. Shock mines don’t work as well against him as Dooku. Maul- DONT. STOP. MOVING!!! Hit him with as many charged shots as you can land. Shock traps are best if lied at your feet and bait him into them when he gives chase. The shock trap should mainly be used to get some breathing room in the fight he won’t stay stunned for long and he’ll get back on his feet fast. Side rolling is the best dodge used against him thanks to that lunge attack of his, otherwise you’ll be in a lightsaber blender. Bossk- keep a fair distance and have good cover so he can’t use his traps against you and that you have protection from his grenade launcher.
