Do you respond to comments? I need some guidance on finding a suitable drama school. How do I tell if one is right for me? Do I need an official four or two year school? Or just a couple of choice classes? Any help would be largely appreciated! I never began taking classes seriously until you mentioned it in one of your videos, and given your background, I trusted your opinion much more. Thank you for your channel and program!

This is a good one, Kurt. Everyone, even veterans, need to be reminded of this. Every audition is an opportunity to impress a casting director. I recently read for a character on a Hulu series. I immediately thought I'm a terrible fit for this, but I did my absolute best. I didn't book it. But I was asked to read for another role in the series a week later and, boom. Booked it.

Keep up the awesome work, you've helped me properly evaluate how I want my career to go and the best ways to go about doing it. Question: Does accepting the audition even though you might not fit the role extend to having your rep submit you to casting? I sometimes get the feeling that reps send out blind emails to All talent on the roster, and that it's up to us, talent i.e., to see if there's a match.

Hi Kurt I just wanted some advice. Atm im applying to join the airforce and I'll be required to stay in it for a minimum of six years. In this time, I won't have many oppurtunities to pursue acting. Should I continue applying or should I find a different job that allows me to pursue acting more. I know the latter sounds better off the bat but the airforce will pay me really well and will allow me to become really financially independent.

I want to add something to Kurt's points that might help people auditioning. For me, I imagine the audition tape is the ACTUAL performance of the character I'm applying to play. Without costume or props or special camera angles or even the whole script - in that moment for those script sides, I'm playing character and giving it my best. Even when I shut off the camera, I sometimes give a bow in my studio space like an audience of the director, casting people etc were there! Because the casting directors are asking for a performance from you for that minute or so. You simply give it and then walk away knowing you did your best. If they want more from you, they'll come get you. Otherwise, you did your job to play the character. :) hope this mindset may help you!

I am a very shy person and I am hoping acting classes will also break me out of my shell, but can anyone tell me if acting classes require you to do plays and such? for an audience? I am more than willing to do so but am wanting to know ahead of time so I have a mental note!!!

Thank you, Kurt. I understand in this video you were speaking to auditioning to whatever is sent to you (if auditions are directly being sent to you) but what are your thoughts on that approach as it relates to online casting sites? Do you recommend auditioning for things that are posted that dont fit you? Do you think they would take it negatively if lets say im one race but i auditioned for a apart of another race? I understand this is your opinion on the matter and that we of course can make whatever decision we like, but I am new to this and would love your opinion? 😊

Good advice. If some one just kills it in an audition, I'd certainly consider altering the character description. I'm casting for a short, and I have half a dozen 'governor staff'. One needs to speak Spanish at times. Does that mean a non-Hispanic can't speak Spanish? Nope. Superb acting is rare, so.. Great acting trumps a character description in many cases. Also, as Bryan Cranston has said, an actor's job is auditioning.

Hello Kurt, I had a question to ask and would be truly grateful for your advice here- I am a complete beginner to this field and I just started taking classes with the Houde School of Acting 4 days ago. I'm 18 years old and I live in India. I'm confused if I should move to Australia and join a Drama School, or just take acting classes, 3 month courses or diploma courses ONLINE. So my question is, would you suggest a beginner who hasn't done any acting in highschool(we didn’t have any that in school) join a Drama School for a 3 year course, or take acting classes so that it doesn't feel overwhelming or entirely different when i join drama school? Are just acting classes enough. Thankyou so much. I have to say you're an excellent mentor and I've been experiencing a lot of mental clarity since watching your videos. Lots of love from India Would be VERY grateful to have your guidance. Thankyou

I was going to guess you're on the new 'CSI' but when you shot the second part in your house I knew that wasn't the case. On a different note, how's your doggo doing? Have you taught him/her how to shoot video? That would come in pretty handy for those self auditions. 🐶 📹
@willrogers99322 жыл бұрын
Do you necessarily have to live in the market that you're trying to pursue? Or is it becoming more common to just be able to send self tape auditions to casting calls in separate market? It seems to me like it would feasible to be involved with agents and markets in other cities/states. I'd rather make the move AFTER booking a job 😅

It was a question I had been asking myself just recently. A few days ago, I auditioned for the same casting director again, for the same show, for a similar uniformed character. Now, I've been auditioning for her a few times before (and other), but not booked anything, yet, and it made me ask the following questions: 1) Do casting directors have a quota to fulfil that the producers ask for? (e.g. cast at least 20 people as per a contract) 2) Does that mean they liked my previous auditions (or are they just filling said quota if there is one)? 3) Or does that mean they simply forgot my face after so-and-so many weeks or months and just want to check me out? I was very lucky when I booked my second audition, but learned later that it takes about 50-70 auditions to book your first gig ever, so I guess I'm facing the reality of numbers right now.
