I live in the Appalachians, where there's lots of black bears. Like you'll see them walking on the street downtown. I've encountered quite a few (accidentally came within 4 feet of one when I was 7, but it didn't care) & I agree with this guy's rating. They want nothing to do with you (unless you're carrying food or get close to mama's cubs) & will very likely run from you if you intimidate them. But they have the means to defend themselves, so respect their boundaries 👍

NGL it's not that big of a problem for hikers in general, but if you are going to an area that is known for bears, bear spray and a fairly powerful gun is nearly a must. Hope you don't have to use it, pray you don't forget it.

I didn't really read the full list when i first watched the video, and I just have to ask, how the hell do 8% of men think that they can take an elephant in a fight? That's a higher number than the grizzly.

Their idea of a "fight" probably means "hide in a bush thirty feet away with a .700 Nitro Express"

TBF, it depends on what they mean by fight. Elephants can get startled rather easily if you throw javelins or flammable stuff at them (which is how the romans fought them) for instance, but if a grizzly wants to murk you none of that will stop one edit: I know it literally says unarmed in the thing but yeah I can't see any other arguments for someone saying an elephant would be easier than a grizzly

Essentially during the grizzly bear part, they weren’t listening to park officials and were camping waaaaay too close to the bears, the dude was famous or something but unfortunately they were pass tenced by a grizzly…there’s audio of it also

Even more hilarious than the 6% of Americans who think they could beat a grizzly bear in a fight are the *8%* who think they could beat an elephant. You could get ten strong guys together and they wouldn't beat a single elephant.

Just a few weeks ago I encountered a black bear while hiking. I'm pretty sure I said every curse word known to humankind. Glad I wasn't packing any granola bars that it could have smelled. I slowly backed away and fortunately it wasn't interested in me.

13:52 A dude developed a love for grizzlies and spent time with them, lived, and got under the impression they also loved him back. One day he trusted them so much he and his girl went into bear territory with no bear spray on hunting timing for them. Needless to say he got mauled to death along with his girlfriend. His phone also recorded the whole thing which is somehow up on KZbin and you can find it when searching "Grizzly Man Death Audio".

I did have a close encounter at one point. I live in Idaho, and was out on four wheelers with my grandfather at one point when I was, I think, 13? Anyway, we came up over this hill, and we were blind to the other side cause of the angle we were coming up at. Turns out that there was a Mama grizzly and her 3 cubs about 30 feet away from the top. We stopped, looked at each other, looked at the bear, the bear made a move like it was going to come after us, and we turned and ran (drove, whatever). That was luckily all we had happen, but it was definitely one of the more "brown pants" moments I have had.

ive had two (maybe 2.5 if you count a long distance one on a trail) bear encounters, both with black bears. they're fairly easy to scare off if you just make a ton of noise or even kick at em a bit (assuming they're being aggressive. one was to me, didnt do much other than bluff). mind you those are the truly wild ones that arent used to bullying humans or being fed by em. the ones that people are dumb with and feed or leave food out for are the ones that associate us with food and are therefore even more likely to attack us

I still think dangerous predatory animals are more scary than dangerous prey animals. A hungry animal might be convinced you aren't worth the trouble for some calories. A cornered prey animal used to dangerous predatory animals aren't really easy to reason with.
