Fantastic work on your part, it’s serious, innovative, well-informed, and it’s not about you standing in front of the camera.

CORRECTION- The fist song most Americans Heard was I Want To Hold Your Hand... It was Number One in America before they came to the US. Most importantly IWTHYH was the first song their target audience heard.

A lot of underrated work on this album. All I Gotta Do is special. Good call on Macca's bass work - the guy is a freak. John Lennon underrated as a guitarist.

All due respect to the Eagles, The Beach Boys, or any other group you wish to name, the Beatles had the greatest harmonies of all time. The other bands I mentioned are on record as agreeing.

I actually do like that one casually. It was a tough choice calling it "okay" but it did have stiff competition on the album.

agree totally about "little child" - i never intentionally set the needle onto its lead-in groove. however - "don't bother me" and "not a second time" always were - and still are - some of my personal (not-played-to-death) favorites. especially good call on "till there was you". this is a broadway show tune - with which - as sung by Barbara Cook and Robert Preston on the Original Broadway Cast recording of "The Music Man" - i had been in love - for years. now - it's a fact that broadway show music was a genre virtually untouched by ANY rock and roll band before the Beatles - although it had always been standard operating procedure for more adult-oriented pop performers to turn such songs into chart hits. so - i can honestly say - that i was totally blown away by the fact that the Beatles had taken this great broadway-idiom classic - and transformed it into a such a fabulous rock/pop confection !

Little Child is what they called a "piss track"... and I agree... but they also called Dr Robert a piss track... they did
@ipsurvivor7 жыл бұрын
They only had a little less than twice the time to record this 2nd album and that time was about the same until Rubber Soul which was about twice the time of With The Beatles. The real big time leap was Revolver. About 280 hours. Pepper's was about 330...

My opinions It won't be long: good Would be bad if it wasn't for this subtle nuance that I love: listen closely during the "yeahs." At one point, John switches with the background vocalists. Since it only happens once, I imagine John in the recording studio accidentally singing yeah on the wrong beat. The sound engineer's like, "John you didn't say yeah at the right time" and John just like "fuck it the backup vocals can sing it then" All i've got to do: great Everything he said in the video All my loving: amazing Of course Don't bother me: amazing I love this song. My favorite line is "I've got no time for you right now, don't bother me." Little child: awful Nothing was memorable. I don't even agree with what he said about the vocals and harmonica being memorable. I don't remember anything. Til there was you: great The original was so slow and boring. Great cover Please mister postman: great The original was great. This one is better. Roll over Beethoven: decent Doesn't really add anything to the original. Chuck Berry's guitar solo was better than George Harrison's, but George's vocals were better than Chuck's Hold me tight: amazing It's very easy to overlook the performance of the recording because the score is so good You've really got a hold on me: good This seems like a low ranking, but it's because the original was so good that it's hard for me to give this a "great" ranking I Wanna Be Your Man: bad Hearing the Beatles version, it's easy to well that they didn't want it and that's why they gave it to the rolling stones. This wasn't a good song, and the rolling stones made a bad song decent. The Beatles version is bad. Devil in her heart: amazing I'm not a big fan of the original, and I really enjoy the Beatles version. I give it an "amazing" rank but it's not on the same level as All My Loving. Not a second time: great What he said in the video Money: amazing The lyrics of this song are hilarious. This rendition is tremendous. It rocks out so much more than the original which was boring in comparison to this cover. I want to hold your hand: amazing Just a nice wholesome love song that I can relate to since I don't have any overwhelming sexual urges. All I want to do is hold a girl's hand. This boy: great I love Ringo's song. 16. Little child 15. I wanna be your man 14. Roll over beethoven 13. It won't be long 12. You've really got a hold on me 11. All I've got to do 10. Not a second time 9. Please mister postman 8. This boy 7. Til there was you 6. Hold me tight 5. Money 4. All my loving 3. Devil in her heart 2. Don't bother me 1. I want to hold your hand

It Won't Be Long - Lennon does his best to outdo I Saw Her Standing There for best opening to a Beatles album. The result is a rocking little number called It Won't Be Long (alternate title: Yeah Yeah Yeah), one of my favorites on the album. it's catchy, it's fun, there's harmonies. If you don't say yeah at least once during the song, there's something wrong with you, 5/5 All I've Got to Do - John reveals his diversity by following his enthusiastic rock and roll vocal with a swinging merseybeat ballad. This is another of my favorites, and together with It Won't Be Long, shows just how locked in Lennon was on the early albums, 5/5 All My Loving - MCartney's first effort, another Beatlemania rocker. Paul kills it on vocals and the rhythm section is on top of everything. This is, for me, the best opening three songs to any Beatles album, 5/5 Don't Bother Me - last time, George's first song was a bouncy pop cover. This time it's a dour original. Harrison had not got very far in his songwriting yet, which is evident in this somewhat straightforward song. Still, for a first effort, not bad at all, 3/5 Little Child - this one is so incredibly underrated, even by the group itself. I love it. John shreds it up on vocals and delivers a wild harmonica solo. The others contribute, but for the most part, it's Lennon's show, 5/5 Til There Was You - Paul did well to turn this broadway number into an excellent Beatle ballad. The classy instrumental compliments his heartfelt voice, 5/5 Please Mister Postman - The Beatles make this cover their own, Lennon again delivers a stunning vocal backed by his enthusiastic bandmates, 4/5 Roll Over Beethoven - George isn't always remembered for his rock and roll songs, but he owns this one, turning in a scorching vocal and guitar performance, 5/5 Hold Me Tight - an underrated McCartney song. The performance on the album is a bit off, but it gives a live feel that goes well with the enthusiastic delivery and cheesy lyrics, 4/5 You Really Got A Hold On Me - John and George didn't duet often, and it's a shame, because they were perfect together on this one. John in particular shines, as he does so often on the album, 4/5 I Wanna Be Your Man - Ringo didn't get a lot to work with in the early albums, and this is another example. Points for enthusiasm, but it just falls short, 3/5 Devil In Her Heart - I like this one, and I'm surprised so many dislike it. Harrison does some of his best vocals here, with Lennon and McCartney as his counterpoints, 4/5 Not A Second Time - the lyrics are not John's best, but as usual, he put his heart into his vocals. Underrated effort, 4/5 Money - can't say I think too much of this one. The lyrics are offputting, which is a shame because the lads really rocked the tune itself, 2/5 Overall - 4.5/5, the Beatles followed up their excellent debut with another fantastic album that demonstrated just how far these lads had come

Concerning the singles: I Want to Hold Your Hand - this single showed the two sides of Beatlemania. On one hand (no pun intended), there was the infectious rock and roll enthusiasm of I Want to Hold Your Hand. Everyone is on point, particularly John and Paul's dueting. There is no fault to be found in this piece of songwriting, 5/5 This Boy - On the other hand, there was the melodic, heartfelt imagery of songs like This Boy, a Lennon piece sung in beautiful three part harmony. Again, there is no flaw in the song, as everyone plays their part perfectly. I can't pick a favorite of this single, both are fantastic, 5/5
