Regarding the comments about too much information for a beginner: I agree, but since he records these sessions, it doesn’t really matter as you can re-watch as often as you want (I don’t know if Mike teaches the same way without a camera). There are so many great drills and solid fundamentals in these videos that you can work with for months. E.g. the normal pitch he explains in this video has improved my own pitching so much. I watched it, tried to understand his concept, worked on it, re-watched, worked on it etc. The new coach, Chris, seems to be cool too, but has more a “let’s look at everything and fix something new each lessons” approach.

That is a lot of information for a beginner, I always taught to keep weight on left side all the way thru impact, no wrist, shoulders closed on impact. This is awesome info, but to many things to digest especially for a beginner

my thought was - such a great instructor should be teaching at a nicer range. The setting looks like a hillbilly's back yard where he collects used cars and washing machines lol. I live in the South so ...

Fantastic video ! Didn’t get the details on how to hit the lob. Is it simply the “normal” wedge shot with an open face ? Same ball position? Is club handle pointing at belt buckle ? Thanks !

Ignore the comments about the practice range you are on, what's beautiful is the information you are receiving. The beauty of a range or course is lost after a few bad holes or practice shots.

When would one twist like that vs. using the hips to get up on the right toe?
@cdunne1620 Жыл бұрын
..eh are you getting too specific, try to copy the overall motion, the main advice is keep feet on ground, 50-50 pressure, set-up, and begin to stand up as you start to come down, don’t scoop. When you ask “when does one twist” you’re chopping the motion up into bits BUT it doesn’t operate like that at all. Your mind does this action as one fluid motion. Yes when you’re learning it you might ask when but all the advice you need is in this video, that mindset of picking every part of it apart imo doesn’t suit the fluidity needed, anyhow
@jonathansmith9705 Жыл бұрын
@@cdunne1620 You don't get it. Mike described two specific types of pitch shots, and variations on the second one, i.e. "50:50 pressure," etc. The first one he demonstrated was a pitch shot where weight is distributed from the trailing or back leg to the leading leg (a right handed golfer ends up on his/her right toe. I asked Mike when one would use that motion instead. Simple stuff - one vs. the other.

This guy is a great teacher and how much are his lessons? The ball collector noise in unbearable and this range should be closed for repairs. If Mike is charging you lots of $$$, you should demand you go to a better range.

Mike is truly a professor and coach. His suggestions are so spot on but coming at you a little to fast for you to execute on camera. Even though this is a city dump your getting laser cut advice and methods. So many beautiful courses near San Diego. This content really is too good for this backdrop. Can you talk mike into meeting you elsewhere?

Tell me you were not ready to tie that ball guy to his tractor, send him out in the range and make him target practice, ok I'm kidding, but only a little. I'm surprised the voice in the video came out as well as it did, but it makes following the instruction crazy difficult.

I don't want to say everything he said is crap, but especially on the lob/flop shots when the instructor hit the ball he 100% "scooped". Watch slow motion and you can see his wrists are straight at impact and he essentially slides the face under the ball... which is how you hit flop shots. You have to use wrist. That is why they're so hard to hit for non-professionals. Without a ton of practice using that much wrist is very inconsistent. Also, that bs he said about standing up? Watch when he swings, he literally goes closer to the ground with his upper body on the down swing and only comes up after he's made contact... again, how it's supposed to happen. He might be talking about feel vs real, but that is definitely not what's actually happening.
