In this guitar lesson I am sharing the two most important blues forms from history. The dominant blues and the minor blues. Both are frequently misnamed and misunderstood, whacky turnarounds abound...today I aim to clarify what a dominant blues is, give you a secret shortcut to be able to play the dominant blues in any key across the guitar neck...and not only that but share the minor blues and it's super special turnaround(often played wrong). So buckle up and give the blues a go.

Very inspiring, looking forward to to learning more . Question- why is it that the key of ‘A’ is “ .., especially good for guitar players ..” just curious Thanks

Hey Matt! Thanks for the comment. You could play a blues in essentially 12 keys...Some of those would be flats and sharps. Since our guitar is tuned to E A D G B E, it makes it rather easy to play a blues in A. Also, for some who aren't comfortable with bar chords, you can play the blues in A with just open chords. So, it's just a super flexible and easy to play/understand key.

I actually struggle big time with the d & e7, my 3rd finger mutes the g string. Any suggestions?

How long have you been playing? Just keep doing the chords until you get used to it

@@Professional.Bro.777 3 years. My ring finger just sucks at bending enough lol. I’ll keep practising it tho. Thank you

My friend! Not to be annoying it’s less about “just keep practicing” and more about practicing smart. 1. So, isolate that shape. Set a timer. Play the chord. Take your hand off. Rinse and repeat for a minute at a time. Don’t do too much of this back to back. 2nd. That ring finger can play more on the top side of the string and get out of the way of the g. Basically the string is a cylinder. It sounds like you’re playing too close to the g. Try to fret the d string up closer to the A string. 3. It’s not a super important chord. You can just play the shell voicing instead and it will sound great. A couple ideas.

Thanks, this is great. I always want to flip your tabs over though, so the bass strings are on top. Too many years looking at tabs in magazines, I suppose 🙃

Thank you! That’s interesting. Never have I ever seen tabs or chord charts written with the fat string on the top. I read a bunch of guitar magazines growing up. I only write it with the fat string on the bottom because that is the standard. I tried to solve this problem by doing an overhead angle but I get mixed reviews on whether people like it or not. It lines up perfectly with the charts!
