They are a cool idea but they block too much of the radiator for my liking. These cars need all the air they can get through the rad to keep temps down.

These air scoops will increase STATIC PRESSURE in the STOCK AIR BOX, which will make more of a difference to throttle response than open air cone filters. N54 stock air box and a decent filter can handle 400+. Cones offer HIGH FLOW RATE; great for when youre chasing over 450hp (sound better too). Its worth reading up on static pressure vs high flow rate and their suited application, but lets be honest, screw the science, 2 cones with air scoops looks badboy!

People in forums always say these can't make a difference, because the air suction of the engine is greater than the pressure these scoops can build up. But people often only think the first step. These scoops increase the density of the air infront of the filter, which does not mean that they press the air into the engine, but the resistance the engine has to overcome to suck new air in is lowered and especially when you step on the gas from idle, which is normally the moment where it takes a bit of time to develop power, the engine can first use up the air pressure infront of the filter, before it has to actively suck air through the long and unfavorably shaped (at least for the inline engines) air intake. That might indeed make the car feel a little bit more agile, even though it prbly doesnt show on the dyno. But by far most importantly: When you have an open air filter, you want to guide as much cold air to the filter as possible, to avoid that hot air from the engine bay is sucked in. When you use the scoops and lead the pipe on the inside of the engine bay directly to the air filter, you wont build up any air pressure, but you make sure that there is always enough (or at least more) cold air around the air filter. And that has the potential to make a big difference. Everything above is about POTENTIAL gains, not tested with any air flow sensors or what ever. Do with that what you want. I hava an open air filter for the sound and want to minimize the power loss I know it causes and will therefore print me some scoops. So they dont cost me a lot and its no pitty if a decide to go back to the closed filter.

This has been proven wrong sooooo much. You realise the air going under the car is being compressed, thus high pressure. The bottom of the engine bay on these cars has large holes on it. The under tray leaves massive gaps. This high pressure forces air up into the engine bay. This mass of air is more than enough for the engine and the air density is not going to be increased at all with the use of grill scoops. There is no resistance for the engine to overcome. Especially when using the stock intake (which provides more power and better throttle reposnse than a k&n) style intake.

@@BritishBeeMan the intake is IN FRONT of the engine bay. any pressure up around the engine IS NOT getting in front of the condenser AND radiator and into the vents. You are tripping. It may however suck water into the air filter.

@@BritishBeeMan bamwa is right. STOCK air intake is a sealed box, not an open cone filter. Also, if youre looking to chase 400-450hp, it turns out cones arent much better than stock (sounds better though). These air scoops will increase static pressure in the STOCK AIR BOX, which will make more of a difference to throttle response than cone filters.

Hi , great mod but did you check inside the nostril as on mine, only one of the ducts was open ! ? The other duct was molded off and I had to heat up a knife and slice it out. It was Obviously moulded closed from when it was formed at the time of manufacture.

@@IzzyE9X no , I have the n47 diesel engine. It's a 3 series touring. Originally it' was 175bhp but I've had it remapped and now it's about 205. Maybe only one duct was open as it was only intended for 175hp.

There is waaayyy more volume of air coming in when driving for those scoops to actually do anything, think about it..... You're essentially doing noting and it wont make a difference

Intake air temperature will change, you can ready it on basic obd reader before and after installment, will make diffeence especially having cold air intake

On my 318i, left intake is originally blocked off 😆 Maybe would be better to first install some air intake from models like yours, to increase airflow, but thanks for the vid.

They blocked off the left side of the 320i, too. Not just 318i. I drilled holes in the front of mine and superglued a plastic tube to get more air in the system.

Looks interesting, but I cannot get it. With this the air intake is maximized and it's get to the air filter which is dense and directly slow down intake to the level how much it can receive through that dense filter material. On the other hand this can ensure that you always have enough air in front of filter, something like air buffer. I will probably try 3d printed ones to see is there any change on diesel. :)

Lol, that is some serious BS. Turbo will suck as much air as it needs. The scoops will make no noticeable difference... They would only if the air was pushed to the engine by the forward movement of the car (and that effect is way below the actual air demand even at high speeds).
