Hi Ben, wow! A good reading month !! So far for the womans prize I have read : Stone Blind, I'm a Fan, The Marriage Portrait, Curesd Bread and Fire Rush. I am just starting Trespasses. So far my favourite is The Marriage Portrait , although I really liked parts of Fire Rush too. I dnfed Glory last year , so unless it wins, I won't be trying that one again. Looking forward to hearing what you thought if them all!!

You’re making awesome progress thorough the list - looks like we’ve been tackling similar ones! I think my favourite so far has been I’m A Fan, but still gathering my thoughts on them all.

Oooh interesting thoughts on Women Talking. I will be talking about that in my wrap up next week. Oh I have thoughts. Hahaha. Really want to get to The Furrows at some point.

I've been wondering about The Furrows so thanks for sharing those thoughts. I'll be reading Trespasses soon for the BookTube Prize judging; eager to get into it.

It’s a really interesting exploration of grief. Rewarding for the right readers but can see why it won’t be for everyone. Will talk more about Trespasses in a future video… it’s one I wasn’t excited about but turned out to be a very pleasant surprise! Hope you enjoy it 😊

I love how you touched upon the male narration of Women talking. I feel the same. It is part of the book and makes do much sense. I even missed that exploration in the movie.

Thanks Fleur - it feels so integral to the context and the story, so I was surprised so see so many Goodreads reviewers upset about it.

@@benreadsgood I've only got to 7 of them so far, so not brilliant! But I have more on my tbr. Can't wait for the short list. No doubt they'll all be from those I haven't read yet 😂

It’s definitely full of intrigue! I can see why readers have had a bit of a mixed reaction, but for me it was a hit.

Hi Ben! I am so glad you mentioned that reading too many books is unsatisfying in a way. I have been feeling the pressure to keep up with people on KZbin and read like 12-15 books a month, but I feel I'm cheating myself out of a quality reading experience!

Thanks Kelsey - glad I’m not the only one! It’s weird because when I think about it, the pressure is all pretty self-imposed. There are just so many books, and so little time 😭

Women Talking is based on true events in a Mennonite community in Bolivia.

Indeed - it’s a shocking story! I think Toews sees the work more of a ‘fictional reaction’ than directly being based on the true story, which makes sense as I guess it gives her a bit more poetic license over the plot.
