i was confused and terrified when a friend told me he watched the entirety of better call saul sort of in the background while playing video games and did a double take when he watched breaking bad and saw saul for the first time. also learned that he watched el camino before either show because his mom put in on for a family movie night. probably the worst possible order🤦‍♂

I love Jesse's reveal in Waterworks far more than his reveal in the prior episode. He seemed more like the Jesse we know from early Breaking Bad during his interaction with Kim. Also, the slow reveal of Gus in Witness is so expertly done, keeping him out of focus and then, even when in focus, keeping his head out of shot, and then finally his sudden "ripping off the band-aid" reveal when Jimmy is digging through the trash.
@betterwatchtv
@betterwatchtv 8 ай бұрын
I agree completely! I mentioned this in a different video, but Jesse’s Waterworks reveal matches the Walt-in-Skyler’s-apartment reveal in the Breaking Bad finale almost perfectly. The camera moving slowly to reveal him behind the post… the timing of Skyler/Kim taking a puff of a cigarette and blowing out smoke…

Personally id rank the Tuco reveal a bit higher. Its really a little gut-punch "Oh SHIIIIIT" moment - and the fact that it happened at the very end of the very first episode, maaaaan. Its definitely up there for me with the Hector reveal (that bell ring before he enters, just so dope) and the gradual Gus reveal. Walter and Jessie are obviously also top tier, for the simple fact that its...well Walter and Jessie.

I watched Better Call Saul up until season five (six was not yet out) before Breaking Bad, and while the BCS reveals were obviously lost on me, I did experience the reverse when watching Breaking Bad. Watching Better Call Saul first made it fun for me since I had no idea how it was going to go and what were going to happen to certain characters. Then after I finished Better Call Saul a friend convinced me to watch Breaking Bad I was hesitant at first but I watched it, it was great seeing characters come back from Better Call Saul who I wasn’t sure were going to be in Breaking Bad. Really good video and list! I would have put Lawson a bit higher because he's one of those characters that truly make this universe feel alive. And his introduction in BCS symbolizes the showrunners dedication to keeping that universe feeling alive since they could've just created a different character. Also he's just such a cool character. You expect an illegal arms dealer to be at least a bit menacing but he's just friendly and ultra-professional, which is WAY more interesting.

Before El Camino premiered, there was a countdown video that focuses on what Huell was doing in that safehouse while Hank and Gomez are in the desert arresting Walt. Huell waited forever for them to comeback until the news comes in about a massacre(referencing the events in Felina) and after that, Huell finally leaves the safehouse then the camera close in on a tv revealing that El Camino has finally premiered.

This is a great idea for a video but to be honest (this is just my opinion i still think this is a great video) i wish that it was rather just a general ranking of the breaking bad characters in BCS rather than a ranking of the reveals.

Thanks for the comment! It turns out this video is a redo of my very first 6 videos (one per season) where I attempted to do it that way. Although I tried to rank the character solely on their BCS appearance, which ended up being weird. (Most are glorified extras without the BB context.) So ranking their character across all shows could be the way to go!

BCS is the greatest prequel ever made. It is also a midquel and sequel as well, and actually begins and ends as a sequel to BrBa. I never once thought the BrBa cameos were forced whatsoever. They were perfection. I am so very lucky I got to watch this amazing series as it aired from winter of 2008 to fall of 2022. 14 years of my life was given to this series and I am grateful.

This video shows us some very deep and never before seen insight into the BB/BCS universe right off the bat. We can see the deep and depressive spiral of a man who once, years ago, followed an ordinary life as a construcion worker. However, once the staged freak accident with Jimmy occured, and, while he may not have shown it first, the worker fell into a dark spiral of depression and trauma, to which the only cure was joining the criminal underworld. What makes this story truly poetic, however, is his death. He is seen dying at the hands of Mike Ehrmantraut, a man very closely associated with Jimmy himself, making this story come to a full circle. Not only that, but a mere few seconds later, we can see that a similarly bad fate has befallen Brenda, another person known to Jimmy and the whole of HHM. Bravo, Vince.

Really fascinating watch but it feels a bit odd that you explicitly add El Camino if they appear there too but not if they appear EC/BB only. EC‘s cast is not that huge so a kind of bonus section would have been nice. Also it‘s odd that the BCS team didn’t choose to give Kirsten Ritter a cameo. She has a drug background so consulting a lawyer seems logical especially how much her father cares. Also her character is the main reason Mike actually exists. The clean-up scene where we meet Mike first in BB, features him because of filming conflicts with Saul
@betterwatchtv
@betterwatchtv 27 күн бұрын
Good points! This is still the longest video I’ve done, and at the time I was worried about making it any longer. I would do some things differently now, and a bonus EC section makes a lot of sense! Yes, a Jane appearance would have been cool! Thanks!

Yeah even though it's a prequel and technically the watching BB after BCS should make sense from a story perspective, watching BCS after BB is a much much better experience. Especially if you watch BCS immediately after BB so events and characters are fresh in memory. Great video mate. I picked up most of these when I was watching. Just a few really obscure/difficult ones like Brenda and Spooge that I missed.
@betterwatchtv
@betterwatchtv 16 күн бұрын
Thanks!! I agree about watching BCS immediately after. I can’t decide when is the best time to watch El Camino. Maybe roughly when it was released relative to BCS. Because I found it most effective as a nostalgic look back to the BB finale, and I don’t find it super interesting beyond that nostalgia.
@write2pras84

@@betterwatchtv agreed. For me, El Camino provides closure for Brock’s storyline - which I wasn’t expecting but happy it did. I wasn’t really looking for any more for Jesse or anyone else: Jesse had a good ending in BB that was more than enough.

@@betterwatchtv one other thing I liked in BCS is how some characters reappeared within BCS / El Camino with some continuity. Like Man Mountain clearly didn’t ever want to work in personal security after Mike scared him off and became a bouncer/pimp later. Same with Sobchak who moves on to detective work. And the 3 UNM students always being on call for shady AV work 😀
