A devil fruit user has to be at least knee deep in water to be weakened by it. For example a devil fruit user would not be affected by rain drops. Oda explained this in an interview. Also we see this in Logue town, where none of the devil fruit users are affected by rain. So no a water gun would not do anything to devil fruit users

If I recall correctly, the reason why 4Kids removed a lot of text, even if it was in English, was to make localization to other languages easier. It's part of the reason why a lot of other countries used 4Kids' footage when localizing shows they dubbed.

I think the most elaborate is still Yu-Gi-Oh with the shadow realm. Strangely though it seems that when they couldn't censor death they wouldn't do that. When Yugi and Joey have their duel at the peer it's almost entirely unchanged. The threat is made clear that if one loses they will drown and if they go over 40 minutes both will drown. They even kept in the part that Tea will be crushed by a container if Kaiba tries to intervene. Nobody talks about that but I think it's one of the few times a truly life or death situation was kept entirely unchanged in a 4Kids production. The only thing is that when Kaiba throws his card it bounces off the hand of the rare hunter rather than getting stuck in it but that's a minor detail.

4Kids bought the series blindly. See there was a package deal that Toei Animation offered them it included "Ultimate Muscle" and "Ojamajo Doremi", 4Kids bought it but failed to research the show's content. When it was discovered that "One Piece" was a tad too violent and sexual for them they asked Toei Animation if they could drop it. Toei wouldn't budge so 4Kids edited the series down to a more child-oriented show. In 2006 4Kids announced it would suspend further production of their dub, due to cost issues and most likely a loss in revenue due to Pokemon expiring.

Most of the time the episodes were TV-Y7-FV, some were TV-PG and some that had stronger violence were TV-PG-V. The edited dub stopped after Jaya, because Funimation had intended on redubbing from episode 1. However, Australia was demanding the rest of Skypeia so they dubbed it fully uncut and "One Piece" finished its first run on Cartoon Network AUS.

0:33 It was not. One Piece was NOT the main reason for 4Kids' downfall. Chaotic was. That show nearly caused them to go bankrupt because they put so much money into producing the show from scratch, creating the card game and its online component, and then the economic recession of 2008-09 caused it to blow up in their face right before they broke even and cost them a huge chunk of their cash reserves. They may have lost a bit from One Piece, but they only licensed it. Even the extreme amount of edits costs a lot less than producing a show completely from scratch like Chaotic, especially with its other components.

I liked the 4kids dub of One Piece as a child because I didn't know any better, but if I knew then what I know now, I would've been calling in death threats. Edit: Also, it's kinda weird that despite neutering Luffy's attack names to sound less violent (pistol became blast, and bazooka became double barrel, etc), they went the other way with Buggy's attack names to become more violent (Rice Cracker to Buzzsaw and cannon to harpoon).

You could argue that Buggy is a villain, so they can get away with that, but then they renamed Gum-Gum Bazooka to Gum-Gum Double Barrel, which is still a firearm reference.

they always did that....they cut the dratini episode in pokemon for like 2 scenes they easily could of cut or written over where jessie pulls a gun on the clint eastwood safari zone dratini keeper look a like and then she offers to sell her body as a joke to get the rare pokemon to the old man and he just awkwardly shuns her advances...they cut that ep for the gun most likely but like you can cut that or just allow it since its never fired and on screen for 5 seconds like in the other safari episode right after that they didnt cut out where Jeanie literally points a rifle at ash for like 10 seconds before putting it down and thats okay but a pistol isn't?..wtf….like they did this all the time..i get why beauty and the beach was cut its a weird fucking episode to begin with cause 90's japan...I get why they cut the porygon ep even though they could fix it so seizures dont occur I understand the studios wanting to respect the parents of those poor kids who had a show cause their kids seizures....but the safari zone ep and the eps I never understood why they were cut..makes no sense...you know how many bombs are thrown at kids in the squirtle squad episode or the touchy subject matter in the charmader episode...why weren't those cut?..they occurred much sooner..oh cause we have to market the starters to the kids so we cant cut those eps otherwise kids wont buy merch..smdh ..these companies are full of lies...then they hide behind the censorship laws but who told them they have to air it on kids wb or toonami or wherever else it was put on which is why they have to follow those strict ones to air this show to kids......make it only for dvd and make it for t.v. 14 or something so you can make less changes and dub it properly...

I hear a lot of people talk crap about 4 kids but one some of the changes they made weren't just to make it appetizing to westerners but also to get past us TV censors but I probably wouldn't know what anime was or at least wouldn't have gotten into it as early as I did if it wasn't for four kids and shounin jump showing up at my local grocery store so thank you for kids for all the work you put into your animes cuz censored or not it helped introduce some great shows to a lot of American kids who didn't have cable or satellite
