I never realized that Shaka and Simon Bolivar or Mathias and Nvemba were born so close to each other. Great concept!

I had the same realization many times while making this! I was especially surprised to find out how many leaders in the game were born in the 12th century! Eleanor, Frederick and Jayavarman VII, especially, were all born within three years of each other.

I find it very interesting that Laurier and Poundmaker were only a year apart especially since the Cree are inside of Canada! I would bet those two at least knew of each other!

I'm sure! Making this video has opened my eyes to certain historical meetings and points of friction between those characters! In fact, some versions of history claim that Tomyris herself killed Cyrus.

It's fascinating to see how so many leaders were born within range of each other! I already knew Cyrus and Tomyris were enemies, but not that Amanitore and Cleopatra were around during the same time, or Poundmaker and Wilfrid, or Tamar and Genghis. Great video!
@kneelandsubscribe97863 жыл бұрын
Many thanks! Yes those people were not only close to each other geographically, but also chronologically. They presumably were fully aware of one another and had to deal with each other, for better or for worse.

Eleanor: Okay, but name a European royal who isn't descended from me. I'll wait. (In Civ 6 alone, 8 descendants appear: Jadwiga, Victoria, Wilhelmina, Pedro II, Philip II, João III, Kristina of Sweden, and Catherine de Medici. With both Catherine modes, that's enough for a 10-player game.)

A good bulk of them were born during the 12th and 13th century often just years apart. Kinda makes sense though, as this was arguably one of the most important periods in human history.
@kneelandsubscribe97864 жыл бұрын
I always interpreted those years as "A whole lot of infighting and not a whole lot of actual progress being made", but every period does have its place in history and is, in that regard, very important, I suppose! And, fun fact, Eleanor of Aquitaine's year of birth is uncertain and my sources actually gave me two different options. I went for the 1124, simply because I didn't want her to get 1122: the same year as Frederick Barbarossa. THAT's how many leaders there are from the 12th century in the game: two of them potentially had the same year of birth!
@googane77553 жыл бұрын
@@kneelandsubscribe9786 Sorry for the late reply but yes you are right it was a whole of fighting but that created the political backdrop necessary for many broad societal changes that created many modern states today. This was because the world was incredibly stagnant at the time and progress seemingly halted. This was because previously Europe was in a dark age, the Islamic Golden Age was in decline and China was split into many squabbling kingdoms. The biggest catalyst for change was Genghis Khan since the world had never been interconnected like before since the Romans. Many new countries like Russia, Ottomons, Timurids and Mughals were created and China unified as a direct result of his conquests. New inventions like gunpowder and paper currency also reached europe during this time thanks to the silk road trade that was revived under the mongols but this also allowed the spreading of disease like the Black Death which ultimately propelled europe as the next superpower in the coming centuries.

It would be cool if they introduced the United Monarchy of Israel and Judah. It could be led by either King David or King Solomon, however they’re both very different, as David was a man of war and conquest while Solomon was a man of peace and trade.
@kneelandsubscribe97863 жыл бұрын
It's very sad that political controversy has always made this impossible, and continues to do so. Personally I like looking at history in a cold and factual way, in the spirit of which a judean Civ would be absolutely warranted and welcome. I also feel like they could pick David or Solomon, depending on whether they feel like they need a military or diplomatic new Civ to keep their ratio balanced.
