one day I want to do Taiwan KOM and ride around the island. I didn't know the bike path is on both sides of the river. Hope you get to visit hot spring spas in Taiwan. Last time I visited, my aunt and uncles decided it would be fun and it was nice. We did a hike in the woods and then relaxed in the spa

OMG! What bike box do you have there? It looks massive, like a big hard case. 😮

Looks nice. I'm currently living in Vietnam, and bicycling a lot, and wondering if I'd enjoy other countries better. Around Asia, Japan and Taiwan appear to be good options.

So none of the bikeboxalan hard cases will be allowed on the train?
@JohnnyZeeLee
@JohnnyZeeLee Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what the dimensions of bikeboxalan are….but I can say my box was just over the limit by a little and mine is one of the biggest so I think it should be ok.

Are you still in Taiwan? What is the possibility to stealth camp in Taipei? Do you have video of your bike box? What you are carrying with you. How heavy is your bike box to meet the Airline standard. Which Airline did you took?
@JohnnyZeeLee
@JohnnyZeeLee Жыл бұрын
I am not in Taiwan anymore. I know nothing about stealth camping in Taiwan. Every airline will have different regulations with regards to how much weight you can bring but I took EVA air from Thailand and it was 23kg. Hope this helps.
@江糧旭
@江糧旭 Жыл бұрын
It’s ok to stealth camp in Taipei although some open spaces would be restricted. Read the bulletin board before you set your camp around. Actually there are at least three camping sites within Taipei city. However, if you take a summer visit, hostels would be a better choice.

I got a semi-hard case for my bike and I was planning to escape smoke season next year in the north of Thailand. Have you traveled with your bike by air within Thailand yet and have any suggestions? I've never done it before and I'm not sure if I did the right thing even! That hard case looks interesting but I'd be worried it would be too big for local Thai airlines. Thanks dude!
@JohnnyZeeLee
@JohnnyZeeLee Жыл бұрын
Yes I have flown many times within Thailand. I recommend Thai Smile. I’m sure there are limitations to the size of boxes they allow but having said that, mine is quite large and I’ve never had a problem. Pro Tip: if you call their customer service after making a reservation, tell them you’re bringing a bike and they will increase your weight allowance from 20kg to 25kg

Also Krabi, is a good place to ride during smoke season. No mountains and it’s super hot but the roads are nice

@@JohnnyZeeLee cool thanks. I'm a little worried about that semi-hard case case but I'll try it once and hope they don't crush the bike. :) did you buy the case in Canada? i didn't see anyone like that before purchase in Thailand.
@JohnnyZeeLee
@JohnnyZeeLee Жыл бұрын
@@HairyPixels I did purchase the case in Canada, however I ordered it from the UK from a company called Buxom Box. They have different products depending on how much you want to disassemble your bike. I highly recommend them, I don't have to worry about my bike ever and the box is really well built...but they're not cheap.

The route is also marked 106B in foreigner-facing meterials. I wish they could get rid of the Chinese numbering system some day, it just creates unnecessary confusion for everybody. Just mark it something like 106-2.
@Membrillo81
@Membrillo81 Жыл бұрын
Funny enough, your 106乙 to reservoir route includes some roads with the worst traffic for cyclists. I'm not sure about the 106乙, but the 106 and the 9 are popular among Verstappen and Márquez wannabes, while police seems unable or uninterested in controlling these street racers. Plenty of smaller roads with barely any traffic around Taipei. Have fun!
@JohnnyZeeLee
@JohnnyZeeLee Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I have been to 106z a few times at different times in the day and always found it to be very quiet. I literally laid my bike in the middle of the road. However, I was warned about 9 with the racers but was told it’s only an issue on the weekends.
@Membrillo81
@Membrillo81 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyZeeLee I'm descending the south side of 106乙, climbed the north side, and I prefer smaller and quieter roads without roaring Ferraris and Lambos. It's true that it's Saturday, but the guys who drive those cars aren't working class. Believe me that there are literally hundreds of mountain roads around Taipei with barely any traffic, even on weekends. But thanks for making me coming to check these roads, they're not close to my place and it's hard to avoid the no. 9 road around this area.

@@JohnnyZeeLee yes you made the right choice ! 106 and 106乙 are totally different ! i have never seen ferraris or some moto bike mania race out there actually 106乙 is very comfortable for cycling kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZbChWSXr52Fjs0si=tBXpdmsv4uOQga7R
