They really got this from the way Marchand uses Bergeron as the bumper. Not saying they stole it, but it is essentially the same thing with a bit of a twist having two left-shot players, whereas Bergeron is a righty and Marchand is a lefty. Bergeron is able to take a one-time shot from the bumper position with a short pass from Marchand. They've been doing it for years and I haven't seen any other combo do it as much

Now imagine if the Oilers were able to find the one missing piece for that line. I'm not buying the argument that McDavid would score more if he played on MacKinnons line in Colorado, because in my opinion losing Drai would hurt him more than adding Rantanen and Landeskog would benefit him, but can you imagine adding a guy like Rantanen to McDavid and Draisaitl. That would be insane

I kind of conceptualized this idea many months ago. Take the pass on the backhand and you’re already cocked for the quick release. After I had the epiphany about how it would work I was quite excited to try it in a game. I turned toward the net and looked back to the passer ready for the feed. It came quickly in to my reception area and I absolutely.......... butchered it. Yeah, it turns out taking quick passes on the backhand isn’t easy. I’m sure with more practice (and perhaps a bigger Draisitl-like paddle) I could make it work. It’s definitely a solid idea. Practice makes perfect, kids!
