Since battle droids often acted as garrisons for Separatist worlds, I like to think that service models like the pilot and firefighter droid would be found in the civilian sectors, performing jobs that would've been hazardous to organic beings. (Plus it would match the PR the Confederacy spread in saying how they used droid armies to avoid risking the lives of their citizens in combat)

You know I really like the fact that there is so many different variations B1 battle droids, instead of a bunch of specialty models. Because it really makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint, it's a lot easier to retool a factory to make a specialized version of a already-established template, Instead of switching the factory over to a completely new template. And that just really fits in with the quantity over quality CIS way of doing things.

My favorite droids in Star Wars are the B1's - Purely because for being a bunch of functional idiot death bots- They seem like if they'd have a choice in the matter they would really just be more home doing other things than fighting in the Clone Wars. Plus when they develop their own unique personalities (usually after sufficient damage being done to their circuits) they have the capacity to at times be savagely sassy, condescending, and sarcastic towards just about anyone: And I think that's a grand quality to have in a droid that's just sick and tired of their job that involved marching out to shoot people, get blown up, and then end up being rebuilt to be sent right back out there again.

IMO the ones which did their intended job the best, are the Pilot droids - for example, remember the ship which Anakin "cut" in half? well before he did that it was already damaged pretty badly, but it managed to stay in air pretty well due to the pilot droids (that is untill Anakin and Obi-Wan killed all of them). they honestly never failed at their job and did everything they were supposed to perfectly

I've always been a fan of the piolet Droids, they're my favorite color blue, if my icon didn't make it obvious. Also helps they got to help R2 and play a decent role in the Citadel Arc, which I also enjoy greatly. Also, nice effect at the beginning to transition the box color from blue, to red, and then to yellow, when talking about the most well know varients.

I remember reading in the Official Star Wars Fact File (that must have been around the time AOTC was released) that only the OOM series had vocabulators, which meant that regular B1 droids weren't able to talk. This applied to the time of the Invasion of Naboo. I don't know whether this was later retconned or not, but I like this concept. I really don't like the way B1 droids were portrayed later in ROTS and especially in TCW. In EP1, B1 droids were cold and intimidating and now they're a joke.

Don't remember hearing anything on the aquatic droids, anyways, "but the CIS command consider them disposable." Ignoring the whole 'meant to loose from the beginning as part of a Sith plan is why the CIS existed' part for a moment, that was probably the biggest reason for why the CIS would be considered inefficient, economically speaking. Combat engineer droids sounds like a real money saver, as well not considering expensive warships 'disposable'. The Republic misused a lot of their equipment, for example the ARC-170 was better suited as either a 'behind enemy lines' unit, as the name suggest 'Aggressive Reconnaissance' or, could have been a 'jack of all trades' fighter if it was made modular, instead of having different craft requiring different support teams. On the flip side, the CIS was wasteful, those droids memories could have been uploaded to a centralized computer network, passing on their experiences to the next generation of battle droids, or used as a type of ranking system, a basic battle droid is 'promoted' to say a 'heavy battle droid' after a determined amount of time as a basic. But, no, the organic and semi organic (Grievous) command just simply wasted them, causing all that memory, thus vital experience, to be destroyed.

Why did the CIS battleships even have an atmosphere? Wouldn't it have been better to be in a vacuum? It's not like the droids needed to breathe and the admirals would only be on the flagship (assuming there even was an admiral). It only allowed jedi/clones to board more easily. Hell, could even omit artificial gravity, since the droids could just have magnetized feet.

before the clone wars show retconned it, everyship with a proper bridge had a organic commander, with fully automated variants being built (and seen in the background meaning they are still canon), which have no atmosphere and only maintaince tunnels for droids, regular varients also only had limited areas with the atmosphere (the bridge, crew cauters and the halls connecting these together and to the hangar). this was retconed for atleast some varients of CIS ships, its unclear how mutch, but they definitely retconed the fact every ship with a useable bridge haveing an organic commander.

disagree, humans are one of the least threatening thing out there, espeically if portrayed as dumbly as the droids are portrayed in the 2007 clone wars. I would argue an inhumane droid is more threatening (assuming the same behaviour, ie serious and brutal), as there is less humanness that can be attributed to it. the meta (ie behind the scenes) of the B1 was designed to look like an alien skeleton, so a horde of them looks like a skeletal horde from grim fantasy. however as they decided to turn them from somewhat serious and quite in episode 1/2 to more comic and chatty in other media this lost any effect it might of had. in universe they are based off the geonocean wingless drones (slave class)
