I'm pretty sure there's an article somewhere where the hair and makeup artists talked about how they made Dua's mermaid wig look bad on purpose because the mermaid doll's hair is usually super bright and fake-looking. I know I read it a month or two ago. Also, Issa mentioned Greta asked her what she wanted her president barbie to wear, and she chose a ballgown. :) side note: i wish they would've had paul rudd on set to be the one shaving ken from the 70's.

Yeah they hair and makeup team was AMAZING on this film. I saw a video on how they had to have a peachy pink toner made especially for Margot’s wigs so her hair matched perfectly with all the pink of her outfits and the set, so I knew that Duas wigs had to be intentional. I think they could have hammed the fakeness up even more? But I don’t know how they’d do that without them looking terrible.

@@beehaslam707 yes! i heard the woman in charge of the wigs say she had toner on hand at all times and had to tone each wig to match each outfit accordingly. and they said that Ryan's hair is less toned and more bleach yellow the worse Ken gets in his journey - which is why his roots show at one point. I need an art book for the movie pronto.

In the Barbie Mount Rushmore the Asian doll is specifically Oriental Barbie from 1980. Each doll face on the mountain is the first of it's kind, first Barbie ever, first black Barbie, first Asian Barbie, and the first Teresa doll.

I think the Weird Barbie is "Romantic Bride Barbie" from 1992. All the Barbies referenced in the Weird Barbie flash back date from between 1992 and 1994. She has bangs, platinum blonde hair, white earrings and nude pink lips. I can't find any others Barbie with these characteristics in the same period. In the film, it’s also mentioned that she was the most beautiful Barbie. A bride is considered to be the most beautiful. So. This is my theory. Thank you for this video! Correction: I also bought the movie. I replayed the flashback in slow motion and it is the totally hair Barbie. She doesn't have any white earrings. It was an illusion of your screen print. She has holes in her ears because her earrings were torn off. At the beginning of the flashback, we see the little girl cutting her hair. I don't think the fuzzy Barbie in the background is the slumber party one, but maybe the second doll you showed us with the gauze-y rose pattern. I'm 70 and have grown up with a lot of these dolls so it was nice going down Memory Lane with you. I haven't seen the movie yet. I have a chronic illness which makes it a very poor choice to go to the cinema, so I have been waiting for it to come online. But the price is prohibitive! Thanks for all your hard work. My mom said she had a Peaches 'N Cream Barbie doll when she was a kid. I just realized that the flooring in the Dreamhouse at 7:22 has the iconic stylized letter "B"s all over it. It's interesting that in 2002, they had the "Mermaid Fantasy" Barbie dolls when "Barbie: Mermaidia" was released four years later. Almost like a precursor to the Mermaidia dolls. 16:56 Now that makes me wonder how many of the outfits that Ken wore during his fashion show for Barbie in "Toy Story 3" were based on outfits worn by actual Ken dolls.....? This is not necessarily a doll outfit reference, but a real-life Barbie reference in this movie is the fact that all the employees at Mattel are guys, and in real life, in the 1950s when Ruth Handler presented her idea of a grown-woman fashion doll, all the other people working at Mattel were men, and they initially disapproved of her doll idea.

Walt Disney Pictures (the studio/division that distributed TS3) opened the same year this doll arrived on toy shelves. And 3. the scene of Mattel executives tickling each other could be a reference to not a Barbie doll but the original Tickle Me Elmo plush.
