Everything about casting Jim Carrey as Robotnik was pure genius. Not only he is one of a few actors able to keep with cartoonish CGI characters, but also the way he slowly turns into Eggman known from games is perfectly executed and fun to watch.

@Obscurite1221Ай бұрын
The greatest thing working against the progression of society is human nature. Greed, envy, and ambition are all double edged swords. They can be channeled into innovative passion or simply to steal and take from others. He's not wrong to value computers and robots. They don't lie, they do exactly what they're programmed to do, and any deviations in their behavior is entirely your fault as the designer. They are a force multiplier for someone that is actually capable, especially with how much of a genius that Doctor Eggman is. And much like Superman and Lex Luthor, Eggman hates Sonic because he refuses to believe that any being can actually be objectively good, much like Luthor hates Superman because Superman could at any point just decide to eradicate humanity and there's basically nothing that can be done to stop him. Eggman has largely good intentions, even if his methods are questionable. He just spends more of his time trying to beat the Hedgehog than he does actually bothering to conquer the world, or do anything productive.

@@samakiraroyjanssen6326| Exactly. Robotnik is a genius, a perfectionist, and a narcissist, meaning he values three things: competence, efficiency, and loyalty. His assistant is one of the only people in the world who can actually meet his standards, and on some level Robotnik recognizes that. It's also why he so obsessively hates Sonic: the Blue Blur is the an antithesis of everything Robotnik values: he gets into trouble, wastes time showing off, and openly mocks the doctor. According to Robotnik's worldview these traits should make Sonic easy to crush, so the fact that he ISN'T easy to beat challenges everything the doctor believes in. For some people that would make them reconsider their values, but Robotnik is a narcissist. He'd much rather remove any evidence that he's wrong than actually question himself.

Its my favorite twist Jim Carrey gave his take on the character. Its very rare the videogame and animated robotnik depictions have someone he actually cares about. The best part is, its mutual, they both know exactly what the situation, its a holmes and watson scenario, a moriarty and moran scenario, where while one is the boss, they both care about each other and value what the other can do, while simultaneously keeping the arrogant villain and sycophantic underling dynamic. It humanizes them both and feels way more human than most depictions of villains and their minions, and realistic in how Stone STAYS with Robotnik instead of so many stories where the Villain abuses their minion and then is betrayed for obvious reasons.

Jim Carrey did this role perfectly. I don't think anybody else could nail Eggman's eccentricities as well as he does, from the way he accentuates his words with cartoonish gestures to the little quirks in his speech. And seeing how Jim Carrey has progressed Eggman as a character has been so fascinating, it's been an awesome payoff to see the development of Eggman over the last 4 years. On top of all of that, he's done an excellent job showing his adaptability as an actor; having to do physical comedy off of CGI characters in Sonic 2 was already probably a huge challenge for him, but with Sonic 3, he's literally acting off of himself, given he's playing both Gerald Robotnik and Dr. Eggman. That is an insane level of commitment, and it shows just how dedicated Carrey is to this role.

I could honestly talk about Jim Carrey's Robotnik all day, he's absolutely my favourite version of the character, but something I haven't seen many people mention that I really love about him is how he actually makes egg puns, embracing that "egg" side in a funny way, rolls his r's in a few scenes just like Baldry did in Aosth and how absolutely nuts he acts in some scenes, truly showing the "Mad" side of the doctor. He's completely lost it after the Mushroom Planet and you can tell.

We truly do not deserve this man. Jim Carrey is a comedy god.

I love the transition Jim Carrey's Robotnik has gone through over all of the live action movies, in terms of character portryal and appearance, from a movie studio looking like they were doing their own thing to make a fictional franchise work in the real world, to making the character more accurate to the source material. I know this has style began in the comic book superhero genre but it's good to know it can be applied to the video game franchises too.

They really wrote the line “look what came out of my egg sac” and that made it all the way to the final take. Incredible.
