I think the last F bomb is huge. It not only mirrors what Gina said to BoJack. It is showing that her reputation is becoming shattered due to directors and other actors believing she is difficult. Almost directly after this the director tells Kelsey that while Gina is a great actress she has become more difficult. Kelsey who had high expectations and thoughts of Gina takes back her initial decision to cast her in her movie. This is irreversible since she can’t get that role back.
@swiftswalow5 жыл бұрын
but the sad thing is... she HAS become more difficult to work with. Her trauma does harm her and she harms the projects she is in because of it. Gina has become a hazard and an inconvenience to every single show or movie she works in. It's not that she was a false reputation, she had a true bad reputation because she is difficult to work with, but what people don't see is that it's the reason why she is so difficult to work with and the even sadder thing is that even if they knew it's irrelevant: she is difficult to work with and therefore she won't get many roles, and it's not a surprise, a movie or show takes a lot of time, money and effort, and she is not entitled to put projects in danger only because of her trauma. Bojack horseman is a show that defends this idea, your trauma is not a free pass to be shitty.

Swift Swalow she is stuck though, she can’t get her trauma addressed because she believes by telling the public that Bojack did indeed strangle her on set, that would be all she is known for. Her Trauma is no excuse to be a shitty person to others, but I feel for her. There’s not much she thinks she can do. Season 4 is probably the least hard hitting, particularly in the moment as it’s played for laughs. But when you look deeper it has more meaning - Bojack planned to say “fuck you” to his mom, but when she finally recognised him at the end of Times Arrow, he comforts her, telling her she’s at the old Sugarman Place. It shows how Bojack developed and softened, and how even when he had the chance to tell his mom to fuck off, he comforted her instead, despite everything.
@SliceOfDog3 жыл бұрын
Fully agree. The ending of Time's Arrow is one of my favourite scenes in the whole show, and it gets so much of its power from the F-bomb we get here. The fact that it's played off for laughs almost makes us dismiss it, but its such a powerful concept (tearing into an aging woman with dementia in a moment of clarity) that it sticks with us and informs how we expect Bojack to act. When he's kind to her instead, it's the proof we need that Bojack actually can be redeemed. I've heard some people say she didn't deserve that kindness, but in a way, it wasn't for her. It was for him. He broke the cycle of hate.

The third comes from a friend who’s not *really* upset about any one specific thing, but has reached his breaking point. Then the fourth is Bojack himself using it to vent the poison in him from the trauma his mother put him through. Five is from him directly traumatizing someone else. I think the one in season 6 is another subversion. Throughout part 1, Bojack is finally getting his life together. He's finally found solice and happiness with himself, at least a little bit. But despite that, he's still caused damage to people, and that damage still resonates with them. That's what the last episode is about. The "fuck" highlights this resonating damage, even though Bojack isn't in the episode at all. The fact that it's verbatim what Gina said to Bojack also emphasizes this. The Gina one is super intense. She refused to deal with her trauma and now she's just as damaged as Bojack.

Season 2 is, for me, the most impactful. I consider myself a pretty peaceful person. But being the mother of a daughter myself I felt that anger on a primal level.

I actually really like the last f bomb because it shows how Bojack affects peoples lives through the eyes of others and not just himself. Like, not only did he traumatize Gina, but now has in a sense turned her into another Bojack Horseman because she can’t live normally anymore, showing the lasting ripple effects.
@4cannibal4 жыл бұрын
Bojack saying it to hollyhock is the one that hit the hardest to me because instead of another character symbolically telling Bojack that their relationship has been permanently damaged by him, it's bojack telling someone who had such high hopes of him that he's going to disappoint her- and he did.
@sphereballs3 жыл бұрын
Although it may not seem as meaningful at first, I feel like season 4's F-bomb was Bojack trying to shift the power dynamic by attempting to cut his mother out of his life the same way other characters keep doing with him. All the other F-bombs are used against him when he is undeniably the one at fault, but Beatrice is the only living person he can rightfully blame for some of the bad things in his life. Unfortunately, the dementia robs him of that satisfaction and when the plan backfires, he ends up actually having to take her home with him instead.

It’s honestly impressive that they kept the pattern going of only using it once per season

I think the 6th season one was super good. Lots of people are it was "wasted" on Gina, but honestly I think it really shows on how Bojack really does effect his victims. 4th one could have been executed way better. Seemed more of a joke then an actual serious moment.

The 4th one is underwhelming at first but gets more meaning as the season goes on imo

In season 5 we saw Gina take all kinds of sexist treatment on set without ever complaining. In season 6 her costar thinks it’ll be cool to improvise a stunt, but she’d been assaulted by a male costar and became defensive. We get the same words she used thrown back at her. She was criticized harshly by the men on set for not being easy to work with. They can’t know what she’s been through because she put on a happy face through the Philbert ordeal. The secret she hid to save her career is destroying it. It takes a female director to break the cycle by looking past the “difficult” reputation.

Bro, that "wtf is wrong with you" from Gina always made me feel so disturbed
@calebmeyer96524 жыл бұрын
Its interesting in the second to last one, bojack traumatizes that girl and she says, what the fuck is wrong with you, and in the next one it is someone else saying to her what the fuck is wrong with you. I think this is notable because someone only does something so crazy that they are asked what the fuck is wrong with them only after they have been traumatized themselves. Bojack passed his disease onto her

I feel horrible for Gina, even despite hiding what happened from the world, Bojack scarred her for life
@celestestefanova3 жыл бұрын
the fact that what Gina's colleague says to her is the same thing she said to bojack after he assaulted her is an excellent cinematic parallel showing the extent of her trauma from bojack

That rule of the writers of using the F Word really makes moments stick. The Todd moment will always stick me, the perfect amount of delay, the thought of Bojack losing his best friend, and Bojack dropping it in S4 makes perfect sense given it's all about his mother and his relationship

Season 4’s really fits into the wider pattern talked about in the Season 6 interview, doesn’t it? “Fuck you, mom, now I have the power!” All those failed, destructive relationships were just him trying to get revenge on his mother.

I think the last two hit me the most. How the cycle of trauma moved from Bojack to Gina, and how her career probably forever suffered because of it. She might not have been known as the person that Bojack strangled, but like someone else had said, she'll never get that movie role back. it's really heartbreaking
@helios10872 жыл бұрын
Fuck every time I see those scenes with Gina I feel REALLY bad for her. She wanted to hide her literally almost being killed because she wanted a career where she would be herself, and not "girl that almost got strangled by star actor". And in the end it traumatized her so hard it gets in a way of her acting.
@kobienotcoby28624 жыл бұрын
