My list: 8: Sea Shroom. You made an excellent point on how useless this thing is. My added thoughts on how useless he is actually involves the Zombies. Water Zombies come so late in Fog, that Sea-Shroom isn’t even useful at all for early game, and once it has an opportunity to even attack, you have way better plants for the job. 7: Cactus. You use her in 4-3 precisely *twice.* I pretty much counted the Balloon Zombies, and there are like only 2 in 4-3, so congratulations Cactus, you’re technically not “useless”. She gets immediately replaced with Blover, which is effectively a nuke towards Balloon Zombies and fog. 6: Blover. I had a hard time of whether I should put him above or below Plantern. Sure. He is double purposed, but the fact that it’s 100 sun in a Fog level makes it a risk, but if you play your cards well, it can actually be good. 5: Plantern. It’s necessary for Fog, but that’s practically it. It’s useful for Vasebreaker, which I guess is cool if you’re a fan of Vasebreaker. Arguably better at clearing Fog than Blover due to its cheap cost. 4: Split Pea. Mainly good for Diggers, but can be useful with other jumping Zombies. It has a fun use during the Final Waves or if you care about mowers, but instas do the job better. 3: Starfruit. Gimmicky due to the strange directions, but if you’re used to the pattern, it can actually be somewhat useful. Spamming those cheap plants can turn your lawn from a straight firing battlefield to a Touhou level. Pretty pattern included. Both Split Pea and Starfruit may be replaced with Gloom-Shroom, but Gloom-Shroom’s expensive. 2: Magnet-Shroom. Due to the vast amount of metal, it’s useful for the majority of levels, though it’s useless in the rare instances without. Doesn’t help that it’s unlocked so late within Fog, and the only other use in Adventure after is after you unlock Coffee Bean. Extremely useful for Survival and Last Stand. It may also be a detriment at times against Diggers and Ladders, especially when using ladder strats. 1: Pumpkin. Like Magnet-Shroom, extremely useful for Survival and Last Stand, but this time you can practically use him whenever. He’s versatile, making room for offensive plants, boosting defensive plants, and even ladders can be used for ladder strats, where Zombies will completely ignore your plants. Only negative is that it’s extremely situational in his home world, but is overall useful elsewhere, even in Survival Fog. Both Magnet-Shroom and Pumpkin are very useful in Adventure 2.

I feel like sea shroom has so much missed potential, not from a development standpoint, but from a strategy one, there's quite a few water zombies that become easier after interacting a plant, like snorkel zombie and dolphin rider

Actually I find a good use of the split pea is using it as a somewhat instant kill plant,if a zombie gets past your defenses or is far enough in the lawn you can place it behind it and help deal with zombies that way

8:plantern. Its pointless, fog does nothing. Blover should be used instead. 7:cactus. not very good, as you need quite a bit of sun to plant it. 6:split pea. also not very good, use star fruit or gloom shroom instead. 5:Sea shroom. its good in my opinion. others won't agree, but I don't want to waste 25 sun on a puff shroom. 4:pumpkin. pumpkin is good in this game as it can be overpowered with the strategy where you use ladders to climb star fruits, split peas or gloom shrooms. 3:magnet shroom. magnet shroom is good in the night levels and average in the normal. could be useful on levels with a lot of footballs. 2:garlic. garlic can move a zombie. this might seem bad until you notice starfruit, gloom shroom and split pea exist. it Can put zombies behind those plants to damage them or put them on other lanes or sides. 1:starfruit. these guys carried me through the roof. they're soo good. the pumpkin and ladder strategy is decent, and good to spam early on in day, and great at night too.

Well, let's begin: 1. Magnet-shroom: a very good supporting plant, that counters multiple strong zombies 2. Pumpkin: my favorite defense plant, 'cause my most problem is space in the lawn to plants nuts 3. Starfruit: a great shooter plant, that I found out to be OP lately 4. Blover: removes fog and ballons, a combo that makes the cactus and plantern useless later. 5. Split Pea: not much useful after magnet-shrooom 6. Plantern: it makes his work, but I prefer blover 7. Cactus: it's a shame that it just pops balloons. I wanted my multi-damage 8. Sea-shroom: a worse puff-shroom

i dont really care about fog in the fog level i even never use planterns, blover or even torchwood and i think blover is better than planterns because blover has a fast recharge and can blow balloon zombies and fog but plantern has like a long recharge that if one of them gets eaten you need to wait a long time to plant another one

Kinda surprised that starfruit isn't in the first place despite being strong. Well, here's my own list. 1) Starfruit: 5 directions means solid and strong stars everywhere. Once you get it, you won't stop using him and you could ditch peas for him. 2) Magnet-shroom: One of my all-time plants, say no more to metals or high defence zombies, he facilities the process of beating them. Ladder zombie begone. 3) Pumpkin: Really excellent especially in survival mini-games and the last stand. A great method of utilising defence is having pumpkin on tall-nut, wall-nut or garlic, also having a pumpkin imitater is worth it to overcome the long recharge. 4) Sea-shroom: Don't ask me why I put him here, he's pretty underrated and free. He shines in fog levels, pool levels are okay though you will need coffee bean to get the job done. While lilypad exists, both are great either way. 5) Blover: Lovely plant, shines in fog and balloon zombie levels to overcome the hassle. 100 sun is fair enough as well as fast recharge. However, keep in mind that the fog will come back after a while, so you will need to use blover again and so on. 6) Split pea: While it's a good plant, no need to use it unless digger zombie is in that level. 7) Cactus: While she can pop balloon zombies, who needs her when blover can get the job done ? 8) Plantern: Early game is okay but useless in late game since blover outshines him. At least, he can get rid of fog at a certain range permanently until he gets eaten. Make sure to put a pumpkin on him otherwise he's vulnerable.

This is a late comment, ik, but technically you don't even have to use cactus before getting blover. Cherry bomb, doom-shroom and jalapeno still work on them, so if you really want to, you can never use a cactus at all.

This list is pretty different to mine (I'm ignoring conveyor levels) 8: Plantern. It's only purpose is to provide visual information at the cost of 25 sun and a seed slot. It would be significantly more useful if you actually needed to see to beat night levels, and even then the fog isn't thick enough to completely block your vision. I haven't used this plant in a long time. 7: Cactus. Not needed in 4-3 because of mowers. Completely pointless, but beats Plantern by virtue of technically doing something. 6: Split Pea. Useful in 2 levels. Hot garbagio. 5: Blover. Useful for all 3 levels that Baloon Zombie is in after you unlock it. Otherwise, hot garbagio. 4: Sea Shroom. Braindead pool defense go brrrrrrrrrrr. Allows you to completely defend the pool lanes for 0 sun in the majority of fog levels. 3: Starfruit. Decent plant. Really boring. 2: Magnet Shroom. Really good utility plant, but its inclusion in i zombie has knocked it down to number 2. 1: Pumpkin. Turn any plant into a Wall Nut. Not my favourite, but I see the value. My opinion is objective fact, and I will not be accepting criticism at any time between today and 07/6/2023.

i get the personal preference but pumpkin is way better in endless, the sheer amount of zombies is too much for magnet, and you can rely on cobs, gatlings, glooms or winter melons that doesn't really struggles against metal zombies, and in my experience, Blover is excellent an counter to balloons in any survival because you can find easily 6 balloons in 1 wave, the blover gets so much value and her recharge is quick enough, and maybe is my luck, but they are fairly common there

Mine would be I wouldn’t include Blover and Plantern because I think Blover is a necessity and Plantern really depends Cactus Cactus is possibly the worst plant in the game, there is no reason to use it over the Blover Split Pea I don’t think it’s very good at taking out the Digger Zombie I think there is many better alternatives Sea Shroom You could watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy by the time it reloads Magnet Shroom It’s great whenever there is Metal zombies Starfruit These plants are seriously underrated, once you plant two lanes of them they will destroy everything Pumpkin These and one of the best plants in the game, they work amazingly with the Gloom Shroom and are vital for the Survival Modes

Time for my list again (expect some controversial placements) 8. Plantern: if you’ve known me for a while, you’d know for a fact that I absolutely hate this thing, first of all, it does literally nothing except remove fog which is something both Blover and to an extent Torchwood do along side benefiting the player with either buffing plants behind them or countering a certain zombie, I’ve seen people call Plantern the “best plant ever” which they are dead wrong about, hell, you don’t even NEED to use Plantern as you can actually just beat 4-2 and 4-3 without Plantern which I have, the only game I’m fine with Plantern is PvZ Heroes and that game has broken me more times than I can count, people also want to see Plantern in PvZ2 which is stupid because unlike a majority of the PvZ1 plants that aren’t in PvZ2, Plantern would be absolutely useless due to fog not appearing anywhere and the PvZ2 devs showing no signs of adding new worlds to the game 7. Sea Shroom: unlike Plantern and even the next plant, I actually kinda like Sea Shroom, I feel like if he had a better cool down, he would probably be liked more by the community, and due to said community hating him, I use him just because I feel a bit bad for him (also, Lily Pads and Puff Shrooms do work but it’s better to save that 25 sun for other plants like Blover or Fume Shroom) and even tho people would hate it, at least Sea Shroom would have A USE in PvZ2 unlike Plantern 6. Starfruit: now this is where I cross the line, talk shit about Bonk Choy, stick up for Scaredy Shroom, and now place Starfruit in the bottom 3, but I honestly do not care, I’ve never liked using Starfruit to begin with, he takes a long time to recharge mixed with the fact that he cannot shoot forwards and his AI is dumb as hell, if you don’t believe me, just see how many times a single Starfruit shoots a zombie below itself compared to how much it should “but ShyGuyMask proved Starfruit is the best plant ever, you aren’t allowed to say he’s bad” it’s called an opinion, and maybe you would think otherwise if you actually try to use Starfruit and had similar feelings to me 5. Cactus: some would say Cactus is the worst fog plant which I sorta disagree with (if that wasn’t obvious) but I do agree it’s not the best, it had a sun cost of 125 which is just a little more than Peashooter, in all actuality, Cactus might just be another Peashooter like plant since they function relatively the same, it’s just that Cactus can counter Balloon Zombies which Blover does better for less sun 4. Split Pea: yes I like using Split Pea over Starfruit, and I’m damn proud of it, the main reason I prefer Split Pea is because unlike Starfruit, it can actually shoot forwards for the same amount of sun, I only really stop using Split Pea when I have Magnet Shroom which i'll get to later 3. Blover: now THIS is a good fog clearing plant, and it even gets rid of one of the more annoying zombies (which SHOULD be weak to catapult plants!), sure it's 75 sun more than the overrated abomination which is somehow called a "god" but 100 sun is easier to get in the fog levels than the night levels because you have an extra lane, giving you more space for sun producers (i'd personally recommend 2 rows of Sun Shrooms at the BACK of the defence to compensate for the lack of sun falling from the sky but you do you), speaking of space, unlike said mistake, Blover doesn't actually take up space because it's an instant 2. Pumpkin: i fricking love this thing, after i get Pumpkin, Wallnut's usage by me is practically cut in half, i especially like using Pumpkin on the roof (which is my favourite area by a long shot) because it actually encourages you to have a stronger defence than when using Wallnuts by adding other attacking plants or Magnet Shrooms (or straight shooters if you are a fuckin psychopath) 1. Magnet Shroom: this is the REAL best plant of the fog levels, Magnet Shroom is one of the only mushrooms actually worth using in the day once you have Coffee Bean since he counters a few of the more annoying zombies to deal with like Pogos or All stars for less than 200 sun (unless you are on the roof but shut), he's even the only mushroom to technically be in PvZ Adventures in the form of Magnet Plant (rest in peace, PvZ Adventures, you deserved to stay active, thank god for PvZ Road Trip)
