The best character development in Got goes to D&D. They started as decent writers creating great television but ones you are at top of the mountain you can only go down. They became cocky and rushed everything and ruined their own name. Best hero’s fall arc

​@Kenny McCormick I'm sorry but please tell me what changes D&D made in season 5 onward that were good. You listed Arya and Tywin scenes and while they're good they're out of character for Tywin. Tywin should be snatching up Arya the moment he learns she's highborn and from the North. As entertaining as they are, her as Roose's cupbearer makes more sense as it sets up his betrayal. The scenes with Tywin are filler. The chaos is a ladder speech is great, but it's not so much a change as an addition. So what changes did they make to the books that you think were good?

Seasons 1-4: The golden age of the series. Seasons 5-6: Some of the cracks started to show, but there was still more good than bad, with S6 in particular having a strong ending. Seasons 7-8: An abomination.

People don’t give season 6 enough credit for how game changing it was. In last 2 episodes alone, each scene was a highlight moment, both battles, Arya getting revenge, Tyrion becoming Hand of the Queen, sept blowing up, Ramsey death, ollena and theon allying with Daenerys, Cersei becoming queen, tommen’s “kings landing”, Bran’s discovery of Jon, seeing Oldtown, Jon becoming king, Daenerys sailing for Westeros, and of course Winter finally arriving. Along with that, the best score in the series with Light of the Seven. Fun fact: it’s the first song to introduce piano, which immediately tells the viewer, something is different (during the build up of the Sept scene). Just an absolute masterclass.

I loved Season 6. The whole sequence before the Sept gets blown up was mastery. That piano crescendo. Cersei says nothing in that whole sequence but you know that everything is in her dirty little hands, and it's horrifying. And when the piano stops...wow.

Definitely the most overrated season. While it’s still great it’s not better then 1-4 in terms of quality and logic. A bunch of really cool stuff happens so a lot of people forget about some of the just awful writing.

The set pieces and cinematography were excellent and the story was still decently strong enough to keep the action compelling. But the quality of writing for S6 was still much lower than S1-4. Besides the big memorable moments, I think it gets overrated because its better than S5 and S7, so it benefits from being sandwiched between two pretty bad seasons.

You didn’t talk about Little finger I thought he was one of the best characters in the show who was perfectly played and also had a great arc. He is someone who really felt unbeatable as you have no idea who’s side he’s on for the entire show and a lot of the twists revolve around him. The only disappointment is when he’s caught lacking and gets killed.

I personally loved season 3. There's a lot of traveling, but the character interactions are what made it compelling to me. So many fantastic pairings this season. Jaime and Brienne. Arya and the Hound. Jon and the wildlings. Daenerys taking out the slave masters. It was a fantastic season imo.

I’m hyped for House of the Dragon. I’m sure the acting, directing, and production will be fantastic, but what’s got me worried is the writing. Not plot-wise as that is already written out in one of GRRM’s books, but the dialogue. The book it’s based on reads like a history book, meaning you don’t really get much dialogue aside from some famous quotes from these people in history, so I’m really hoping the writers deliver in good dialogue. I doubt it will be anywhere remotely near GRRM’s dialogue, hes like the master of that, but so long as it’s solid I’m happy. Hopefully HBO is self aware enough to realize people want a show like the first few seasons, where it’s the characters and political intrigue that’s appealing. Not just the big action moments

I actually don’t hate a lot of the plot points in season 8, they were just really rushed. I feel like Dany burning King’s Landing, John going back to the wall, Jamie going back to Cersei and Bran becoming king all can work if they just took the time with a couple extra seasons.

From what I heard many contracts were on the verge of ending plus given how much money this show was costing to produce I think it was more the executives fault this season only had 6 episodes. But I could be wrong keep in mind these are just rumors, I’m not certain if this is true.

Beside I think season 8 does have many great plot points such as Theon redeeming himself by sacrificing himself to protect Bran, Tyrion helping Jaime get out because while Cersei still hates him Tyrion still doesn’t want his sister to die, and a couple other plot points.

@@michaelnally2841it wasn’t the executives fault. They wanted 10 seasons with 10 episodes a season. The show runners wanted 7 seasons with 10 episodes a season. After season 6 They settled to make 13 more episodes (much closer to what Dan and Dave wanted). Game of thrones has made an estimated profit of $285 million per episode, that is $20 billion in total. That is more than Disney’s profit from all 4 phases of the MCU (if you don’t take into merchandise and the increase of disney world/land revenue)

Charles dance as tywin is my fav character on the show. He is one of the best actors on the show, he feels like a real person. And his history and the debt in the character is just great. Like with tyrion and the reason he hates him is so complex. Is it that he is angry because of the death of his wife? Because he is most like tywin himself? Because tywin knows jaimy doesnt want the rock and tyrion will get it. And even the theory that tyrion isnt even tywins son but a targayern bastard. I love him Tywin lannister the king who wear no crown

@Kenny McCormick lol the good scenes were adapted from geroge’s material, after it ended it went downhill. “Dany kinda forgot about the iron fleet”, “arya seemed like the perfect candidate to kill the night king because we weren’t thinking about her at the moment” “dany went mad bc the bells reminded her of what her house has been through” yup lol very smart writers, give them star wars. Also the show only went this horribly bc they decided to cram 2-3 seasons worth of story into a shorter 1 season, no build-up and no logical flow to events. Your logic makes absolute 0 sense if you think the show was overdue rather than cut-short.

Great list Sean, I’m glad you finally watched the show! My list is: 8. Season 8: First 3 episodes are fine, but the final 3 are abysmal and filled with laughable writing. 7. Season 7: Definitely rushed and a bit nonsensical, but still pretty good overall. Could have probably felt more realistic if it had 10 episodes to work with. 6. Season 5: One of the slowest paced seasons but it does have a lot of underrated episodes and storylines. Not a fan of Sansa’s rape and Shireen’s death though. 5. Season 2: I didn’t love this season the first time I watched it, but I’ve come to appreciate how it continues to world build and set up payoffs like Blackwater. Jon’s scenes with Ygritte are awesome. The Daenerys stuff was pretty dull however. 4. Season 1: Definitely the most rewatchable. It’s pretty remarkable how it manages to set up the series so well with plenty of expert subversion and shocking moments. 3. Season 6: The first half is a bit rough but the final few episodes represent the peak of the series for me. All the reunions are quite touching as well. 2. Season 3: Jaime and Brienne, Arya and the Hound, and Dany all had great arcs, but ultimately my favorite thing about this season is how it expertly builds to the red wedding. 1. Season 4: I swear, every episode has some shocking moment or otherwise memorable scene. This is also the peak of Tyrion’s character arc and really feels like the end of an era for the show that paves way to the future brilliantly.

Season 8 was pretty much D&D looking up theories online and making sure none of them made it into the show. They wanted to subvert expectations so bad they forgot it needed to make sense...whoops.

I didn't mind where they had all the characters ended up...just feel like they needed another in 6-8 episodes in seasons 7 and 8, to flesh it all out. Instead it feels rushed and out of place/character.

Jon going back to the wall was what I think he wanted in the end tbh. You can see he’s able to go beyond the wall which I agree it’s where he belongs and he’s there w Tormund and Ghost and he’s free from going to war or sacrificing himself for everyone else.

People forget that D&D rushed this show out as they were signed up to do a Star Wars trilogy… then Disney saw how badly they messed s7-8 up and cancelled their contract. So, the show was ruined for no reason

Winds of Winter in particular is one of the best hours of television in history, period. there’s a running joke about how the writing fell off after Season 5 when the source material ran out, but Season 6 is the pinnacle of the show. shame we never got to find out what happened afterwards 😆

For me the “meandering” is what the show is all about, and what went horribly wrong. At first, battles aren’t shown but described through exposition. This allows the show to focus on themes and character.
