I find it very interesting that being "feminine" is seen as a bad thing in the gay community. While I do not think being a gay man necessarily makes a a man feminine, I find it interesting that the underlying sexism is still present, despite the fact that both women and gay men have suffered so much discrimination. You would think there might be a little more camaraderie there. So, even if bottoming DID make you more feminine (which it doesn't), who cares? It's not like being a woman is something horrible. To suggest so is sexist.

The real question (Except in the circumstances you so wisely enumerated) should be "Have you TRIED both Top & Bottom?" You don't always have to if you are already empty and clean in there, but I find that doesn't happen often (this can vary by diet, stress, medication, and other factors). I almost always do some sort of rinse, but make sure you stick to water. Using anything with chemicals or other additives can cause irritation especially if used frequently

It's nice to hear you mention the importance of the generation that came before you. Yes, we did make a lot of sacrifices and work for your freedom. We still do. As for this top/bottom thing, what does this attitude say about attitudes toward straight women who have intercourse? @erasicTO that's not a good comparison at all. Being able to indentify that you are gay is simply to do with your natural attraction and the type of emotional bonds you form in a relationship. Being a bottom or a top is simply a sexual act, everyone should at least try it once, to simply see if they do like it, or really don't. It is no different than giving or receiving oral in the sense that you can't truthfully say you do or don't like it until you experience it.

For tops, it's the actual hurt (which by the way, unless you're wide set down there, is going to hurt a little the first time, sorry) but for bottoms it could be something else...what is that fear? I'm not really sure because I identify as versatile so I'm guessing maybe it's that if you're not careful you could cause your partner pain or something worse.

I think this is, so far, out of all the amazing videos you've made, my favorite. I agree 100% with everything you state in this video! it is absolutely not about the sexual part of being top or bottom, but about the feeling that goes along with doing one of both. The funny thing, for me anyway, is that I'm more afraid of it going the other way around. I'm more scared to try being a top simply because I don't want someone telling me when we're done that I wasn't satisfying enough (read: big enough, girthy enough, etc). It's relatively easy to lay back and be a bottom than it is to take control and be the top. And I'm not calling myself lazy, just insecure about trying it any other way.

Okay I know that I am late to the game here seven years out, but I am a Total non reciprocating top. I started off as a submissive bottom, but gave it up because I NEVER got ANY physical pleasure from bottoming (*and this is after doing it for a decade plus with different guys*)I am not afraid of bottoming because I'm scared I might like it. I don't bottom because I KNOW that I won't like it! It was a total head trip for me back then and nothing more. What Davey is putting forth here is kind of like all of those vers guys who say that EVERYONE should be vers and if they aren't then something is wrong with them. To each his or her own. Not everyone needs to top and not everyone needs to bottom. I know that SOME PEOPLE have some pretty effed up reasons for not want to do either one respectively, but just because SOME people got enough issues to fill a magazine rack (*gee GAY PEOPLE with ISSUES?!?!?!*) does not mean that EVERYONE should be painted with the same broad brush. Please remember there are more than 7 BILLION people unevenly distributed across this planet of ours. Unless you live in a VERY small town, it is HIGHLY unlikely you have met everyone who lives in your town. Nevermind everyone on the planet. Even if you HAD met everyone in your town, that still does not mean that you know everything there is to know about them and their experiences and issues and motivations (*since you are not with them 24/7-365*) So do you and let other people do themselves. Oh god, I've been waiting for someone to make this topic! Personally, either is fine with me, top or bottom. The problem I have with strict tops is that it's intrinsically selfish. That is, you want something ALL of the time. If one is not able to even occasionally take bottom, then clearly that top doesn't love ya enough to be plowing you up the butt, and doesn't deserve it. That's just my take on this matter.

I agree in a sense. BUT! It's like saying to someone who identifies as strictly heterosexual, why not try kissing a member of the same sex at least once. Some people just cannot stand the idea for reasons other than fear of being labelled (as gay, as a bottom... as less masculine or WHATEVER) I think there are some people who will avoid certain experiences just because they are actually appalled or disgusted by them
