Rob McGarr I’ve been trying the baseball swing from Peter finch’s channel and it works like a dime. It takes away technical thoughts as it just about feel along one plain. I hope this is a method which will help me to get to single figures before the end of the season
@neilbennett90285 жыл бұрын
Rob McGarr I’m defo gonna give this a go. I tried yesterday’s knee drill on course today for 9 holes just playing irons. Haven’t tried woods yet. Haven’t struck my 4 iron that well off the tee and fairway for years! A few errant shots but that’s gonna happen when you try something new! 👌🏼👍🏼

Tried yesterday's knee thing right away, and felt a difference - a lot more clean hits than usual. This feels like the next step. I do all sorts of things wrong, including hanging back, not rotating enough and gripping too tight, so this feels like it's speaking to me. Exciting!

Malaska fan here...love Liam's instruction EXCEPT at 29:10. Liam seems not to understand momentum...you MUST throw the club head at the ball from the top (do NOT lay the club down!!! or you will get stuck like Liam says but for the very OPPOSITE of what he says. Liam is great for thinking turn during the swing but search for Malaska on how to start the swing...put these two together and watch your HCP go down. I just shot 72, 74 and 76 (Im a 10 HCP) on a fairly long track by just adding Malaska with Liam teachings!!!! Thanks for posting this great video and glad you're back!!!!!!
@grahamjones73713 ай бұрын
Im sure Malaska technique works especially with non sportsman/athletes or people mired in swing thoughts/positions/lag etc But i think what Liam is teaching is throw the whole club not just the clubhead.Im self taught 5 hcp and only person ive taught is my new GF! But for years ive said golf swing BB batter throws bat at pitcher or tennis player uses 2handed forehand body with serve arms Ive only just discovered Liam but have been working on something similar left side and step drills and using my internal/rot cuff muscles to power my soft arms like any good thrower, leading to 3 over in my last club medal and just won the club mixed knock out and im 65yo! But now im going to add smash bag/towel drills so here comes my 1st sub par round!
I just figured this one out on course the other day... that thoughts are only the beginning you have to actually feel and do the thoughts not just think them like I have been guilty of

Just wanted to come back and comment on this. Saw this when it first came out, but didn’t think too much of it. My club does a weekly clinic an I had my pro take a look at my swing. Said everything was looking perfect except for my sequencing. I remembered this step drill and practiced it and today now that it’s become less of a swing thought and more part of my normal swing, I have never hit the ball so pure in my life. Consistency is worlds better and the powers transfer is unreal. Thanks for coming back to golf Rob! We all missed you and you’ve been a huge help to my game!

This is a great lesson from Liam as we can all remember these three simple things (knee position, tension, pivot). So many other online instructors are producing new content and drills every few hours just so that you revisit their channel. If you tried to take all of this info to the range you'd be mind numb! Keep it simple always works best.

This second part of the lesson was exactly what I was looking for, I’ve been torn between finding positions with tense muscles on the course or softening everything up and striking it better. My coach was trying to get me to soften everything, it’s the hardest thing to get used to after years of tense swings but with a few hours of garden work I’m already feeling better about it. Great vid.

I wish I could have come across this video before summer started. I would have done a lot better in several tournaments if I had. I was doing the knee moving too much thing. Now after watching this video I have much more control and power in my swing. I keep that front knee as still as I can. Good stuff.

Hey Rob, great to see you back playing and thanks for these videos. It was your original videos with Liam that got me onto him and TGN. I’ve had a couple of lessons with Liam and they have helped me a lot. One thing I might mention is that you are a bit bent over in your upper back which makes it harder to turn. Some posture work with thoracic rotation in conjunction with Liam’s left knee stability and step through drill may help.
@RobMcGarr5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have noticed that - just seems to be what happens when I naturally address a golf ball. I was thinking about whether I need to change it but it works for Tommy Fleetwood!

Tommy Fleetwood still gets a good turn whereas your posture seems to be inhibiting yours ... I’ll post something up on TGN. See what you think.

Awesome lesson and its incredible how different your swing looks. Having watched since you started this channel your swing always seemed to lack a little flow and never seemed overly smooth but this just looks effortless. Great video. Can't wait to get in the back garden with a homemade smash bag. Do you think these methods work better than the Flowmotion swing drills?
@RobMcGarr5 жыл бұрын
In a weird way I don't think they're that different. Liam is a big advocate of a completely relaxed movement without any tension - which is basically what the Flowmotion stuff is all about. Liam just has a few drills/feels that help get the movements right.
@cookiegolf59625 жыл бұрын
I tried the Flowmotion stuff but the "left foot , right foot" approach made me sway too much. Liam's drills seem like they would maintain the relaxed feel but eliminate any swaying.

I have tried this before with great results only thing I found was that with the longer irons they tended to drop or fall behind the golf ball hitting them fat. Only way to combat was more grip pressure but that gives more tension
@stephenblack98435 жыл бұрын
Is hitting the turf during a practice swing something you struggle with? Lately I've been doing this with my irons which then makes me straight away think I'm going to have bad contact. I see Liam always reminding you to hit the mat
@RobMcGarr5 жыл бұрын
He wants me to use the ground properly and for a practice swing to replicate what a real shot would feel like - including hitting the ground 👍
@markrandall69734 жыл бұрын
The step with the left foot is supposed to go forward to help move your weight forward, but you actually step back with that foot. Anyway, the step drill has single-highhandedly improved everything in my downswing - body movement/weight transfer, arm movement, strike and ball flight. It's given me a lower trajectory with a soft draw now, whereas before I was coming out of the shot with an over-the-top club path. The step drill, when done correctly (I start with both feet together, then when the club is parallel with the ground in the back swing, I step through with the lead leg - essentially, this forces your body in the transition to briefly move in two different directions simultaneously), is the single greatest golf drill that every club golfer should be doing, in my opinion.
