Each of us is no more than a grain of sand in this magnificent world God has created. Be grateful.

Wonderful rendition of this harrowing, beautiful song. Yet the song is expression of teetering faith.

No it is the total opposite, Bob's affirmation of his renewed faith and acceptance of his assigned role. He explained it in one of his interviews.
@billyraybar8 жыл бұрын
Zimium He must have given the interview while under the influence of drugs. 'Sometimes I turn there's someone there, others times it's only me/ I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man' is clearly reflective of doubt

Do your research and don't judge by one sentence that you misunderstand. He is referring to the footsteps, when there are only one set of footsteps (i.e. when he thinks it is only him) it is when God carries him in His arms. Known image and allegory of divine support. Don't you know about that?.

Zimium My interpretation requires no research. The song closing with no one there and hanging in the balance of the reality of man is, to me, a clear signal that the character is questioning his faith. 'Reality of man' is an interesting, purposefully ambiguous phrase that is a declaration of doubt- the possibility that the 'reality' is not God induced

Of course, no research, superficial and ignorant. You see there what you want to, and ignore the truth. Your ignorance is more obvious now. These lyrics were the early version and as all Dylan fans know, Bob's first recording is always done in the hurry of the studio, a place he dislikes and escapes as soon as possible. Albums recorded usually in a few days, some in less than a day. Final lyrics come out later. Check out later recordings and there is no "reality of man" but "A perfect finished plan" has taken that space. Clearly no doubt in the "Master's hand" and His "perfect finished plan." Stop arguing, you do not know Dylan, I have known him and his lyrics from '62. You are blind.

I never found Jesus, and i guess i'm too far gone to do it now, but i sure love bob dylan, and you guys made me happy just to hear your version.......there's something about this song that moves me...dunno what ? thanks a million

Hey Bubbacat54, I just ran across your comment. As long as you're breathing you're not too far gone. That's kind of the point. The thief on the cross 'found' Jesus just a few hours before his death. John 3:17 says this "God didn't send his son into the world to condemn the world but that through him the world might be saved."
First time ive seen Eric pick up a harmonica interesting

very soul. not bad interpretation. :)

Wow. Unfortunately it is not a worship song. Its about the struggle of Faith.
@Zimium8 жыл бұрын
Actually, Dylan explained it is the opposite: It is his realization of his faith and his belief that he has a role defined for him by God - He is "hanging in the balance of a perfect finished plan"...

Zimium Interesting. Sometimes I turn there's someone there other times it's only me' resonated the opposite for me

Well that's all there is as far as we know. Our struggle on Earth is spiritual.

You think the only music God wants to hear is stuff praising him? What kind of insatiable ego does this guy have?
