That was also a song that didn't sound like 1983 either. It sounded like 1985. It paved the way for the rest of the 80s

@@W81Researcher I have to disagree. Worldwide there is no doubt that Billy Jean is a more famous song. I heard it played by teenagers in the Middle East, Japan, you name it, today! I would not say it is the best song in MJ's repetoire (but quite a song it is); the best would be Butterflies - with its Debussian harmony (no surprise Debussy was MJ's favourite composer). Every Breath was popular in Anglo Saxon countries, but really I do not think it has had the lasting, worldwide or inter-generational legacy. This is not a criticism, but Sting is not really a musician. He is a poet. The strength of his songs are in the words, not the music. The reverse is true of MJ. But as a musician myself, I tend to be more drawn to Jackson. Although Sting says the greatest musician ever was Bach, Sting's own music does not suggest a formal or intituitive understanding of Fuxian counterpoint.

Cliff Richard performed the songs "She's So Beautiful", "It's In Every One Of Us" and "Born To Rock 'n' Roll" on its original 1986 album. "From A Distance" was written by Julie Gold in 1985 and has nothing to do with Dave Clark's musical. Cliff Richard released "From A Distance" on his 1990 live album "...The Event".

Because "Hello Dolly" by Jerry Herman won 'Song Of The Year'. "The Girl From Ipanema" won 'Record Of The Year'. You seem to confuse both categories. 'Record Of The Year' goes to the artist and producer while 'Song Of The Year' goes to the composer and lyricist.
