The book has a lot more going on though plus the stakes were raised even higher. In the movie everyone but Sirius got away with a few scratches, in the books it took everything the kids and adults had just to buy time until Dumbledore got there. Hermione was unconsious, Ron was unstable and vulnerable, Ginny and Luna were wounded and rendered immobile, Neville was virtually weaponless, not just Mad Eye, but Kingsley and Tonks were taken out within minutes along with Sirius leaving Harry and Lupin the only ones capable of fighting.

What I loved about the (book) battle of Hogwarts was when Voldemort died, he just died. He didn't die like a monster, but as a human. And there is something really grounding and shocking about that. The movie just pulled a Corpse Bride for his death. I love all the detail that you put into these videos. Thanks for always doing so ❤️

Also Harry and Voldemort's duel in the book was so much better. The way everybody was around and they were circling each other and speaking until the final moment, the tension, the elves knifing the death eaters on their feet... My biggest disappointment about the movie is the way they handled that.

Don't forget that everyone loses their shit after Harry kills Voldemort. I don't think that would've worked in the movie because I never got the hopeless feeling from watching the movie. It always felt like the good guys would win. In the book the characters and the reader is full of despair and just the tiniest bit of hope. We know that Harry doesn't have a chance against Voldemort. We know that the order can't win against the death eaters. So when Harry finally defeats Voldemort there is a burst of joy and people rush up towards Harry cheering. Even though so many people have died this works for that reason. Similar to lord of the rings when the characters clearly show their emotions when the ring is destroyed. This is also due to the feeling of hopelessness countered by absolute victory. If that feeling of despair wasn't there then Merry's chant "FRODO...FRODO" would kind of feel out of place considering how many of their friends has died.

Great list. I really like the Top 5 battles. Maybe the battle in the ministry is my favorite over all. It is so creative with the time-room, the prophecy-crashing, the brains, the death-room. All of the rooms are important. Neville is just great there, I like when the Order and even more when Dumbledore appears. I just read it and you can feel his impact and his power. And directly after this you have the emotional rollercoaster with Sirius death, Harry trying to use his first unforgiveable curse. And then obviously the best duel in Harry Potter between Dumbledore and Voldemort. Yeah, the more I write, I am sure, this is my favorite battle. But I love the battle(s) of Hogwarts too obviously.

Honestly, the battle at the Astronomy tower is one of my favorites and I was so upset that they left it out of the movie. It's one of the many reasons why HBP ranks lowest on my favorite movie list. We don't get a battle, but we get a scene involving the burning down of the Burrow? For me, I loved the final battle with Voldy and Harry. I loved the fact that they circled each other while Harry laid truth bomb after bomb to Voldemort, backing him in a corner, then everyone was watching it, and when they rushed to Harry cheering afterwards was perfect. I felt like the movie made not enough of an impact. They were alone, no one was there, it just kinda ended.

Who else thought that Bellatrix actually exploded when Molly killed her? Cos even when reading, it said something about 'exploding with the force of an atomic bomb'. But rereading, Bellatrix didn't explode with the force of a bomb, Voldemort's fury did, at the loss of his greatest lieutenant, and this fury that he unleashed threw McGonagall, Shacklebolt, and Slughorn, who were dueling him, off the ground.

One thing I never realised about the battle of the seven potters was that the reason Harry had to take over driving the Motorbike was because Hagrid got stunned. I never realised this!!!
