if He was remembering his life in hindsight. Most likely as he grew up his parents simply stored it away as he outgrew it. In the follow up "my summer story" Randy shoots him in the ars with it as they are running down the stairs and out the house. The mother probably just put it away so no one shoots their eye out. In memory it remains his favorite gift, but its eventual outcome isn't so important.

An element of this movie that hit home for my sisters and me was Ralphie losing his father so soon before Christmas. The same thing happened to us three years ago. The first Christmas without a loved one is difficult enough as it is but when it is just a little over a week after their passing it's all the more a struggle. I can tell you too how bittersweet it is to open presents and read the cards from your recently departed loved one. It's heartbreaking but at the same time makes you feel like they have pulled through for you one last time.

All good catches. This sequel does hit home as Ralphie loses his "Old Man" right before Christmas. As with just about every holiday some family somewhere loses a member. I lost both my parents around 2 holidays. My mother after the 4th of July, she passed away on the 11th in 2016. My father before Thanksgiving on the 22nd in 2019. And just like Ralphie, I accepted the family monarch status since I'm the only boy in my family. Albeit the younger child of 3. I have a daughter of my own who is 6 years old. Unfortunately my wife passed away June 3, 2016, a month and 8 days before my mother. I cry for my loved ones around the holidays, I'm human after all. Life hasn't been kind but I press on for my daughters sake.

Disagree. The idea that a 40ish man with a wife and kids keeps his BB gun (where? by his bedside?) is... kinda silly. Nope. They gave a LOT of thought about 1) to show the gun and 2) where/how. What they showed was a way to make the audience happy but not seem absurd. Ralphie still toting a BB gun around at age 42 (or, more implausibly making it into some cherished item. Maybe a shrine? Wait. I thought that leg lamp was destroyed(ran out of glue) and buried in the backyard in the first movie.

I wanted to see the new movie, curious though, in your side by side shots, why was the new movie such low res compared to the original movie clips? I was like wow look how much better the new movie looks in HD then I realized the HD side was actually the original move. also I nearly cried when you showed the fathers hat.

Question... in the original Christmas Story, the leg lamp was buried, who dug it up to put it in the attic???
@monicajane7888

Just the leg was buried not the lamp shade.

@@monicajane7888 Which I find odd as in the last scene we see the Old Man carrying the lamp shade with him, implying he buried it with the pieces. My dad, who’s a lover of the original, gave his own explanation: He might have kept the lamp shade as a memento, which does make sense I guess considering how attached the Old Man was to his “major award”.

What do you think of this sequel? Some say it’s unnecessary while others say it’s great seeing them again! While I have not seen it yet, I heard good things about it so far. I feel like we’ve been getting more and more legacy sequels that have been done the right way.
@FunFactFilms

I think it’s great. It’s still a sequel, so don’t expect it to stand up to the original. But it’s a respectable movie that carries the same spirit of the original in its story.
@julianloht9651

@@FunFactFilms I can respect that. Another legacy sequel I’m looking forward to is Avatar: The Way of Water. I recently watched the first Avatar movie in theaters with a college friend because they rereleased it in prep for the sequel. In fact, you should do behind the scenes facts for that movie after Christmas season is over.

Fun Fact: When Ralphie's son is "helping" Flick run the bar, a phone call comes in for "Junior Kissel." This is likely the son of Ludlow Kissel, another barfly who had a role in Jean Shepherd's TV movie, "The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters" (which in turn came from Shep's short story, "Ludlow Kissel and the Dago Bomb that Struck Back")

It's better. The fact it had the OG cast, alone, is significant part of it. They also put a LOT of deep thought into every detail of this, and it shows by the end.
