I only got interested in Kpop because of GD and Bigbang ( and Super Junior to be fair) long before KZbin or Social Media made Kpop globally available and known. Yes, people can judge him the way they want now because they weren't there when GD's and BIGBANG's impacts going big so they can't relate. Yes, internet and cellphones might be large in Korea, they're the innovator anyway ..but not on other countries .. Even when GD/BB put out their work, it was not widely spread quickly .. they only promoted on Korean TVs .. Back then, there were not many apps and for other countries, cellphones were expensive items and internet provider were rare hence exoensive The later groups benefitted from androids everywhere from cheap to hi end gadgets.. Many apps/platforms to share contents without TV stations help like V live tiktok etc... Don't forget the FARMING BOTS!!! I believe that boygroup that has army were gaining numbers with bots .. Their name is known but not too many people know the songs and dance .. PSY's GS is more viral and everybody knows the song and dance .. that group with that high selling # don't even pass JB Baby or Despacito in term of viral songs ... He literally grew up working his a** off in that harsh industry, blew apart so many stereotypes about idols, started numerous trends that are still used today, paved the way for idols to be allowed to produce their own music, won awards as a soloist that no other soloist from a kpop group has yet to achieve, and despite not doing music for 6 years he still manages to sell out everything. REMEMBER THIS!! when Gaon Music Chart didn’t consider GD’s album ‘Kwon Ji Yong’, which was released back in 2017, as an ALBUM just bcus it was distributed in a form of USB not the typical CD. He mentioned that NO ONE had the right to considers an artists’ album an album or not, whether it is distributed in CD, LP, or USB. And it practically backfired on Gaon. And at the end of 2017, Gaon made decision to consider it as an album. Saying it as a way of how music industry develop. Well here’s the thing. He didn’t complain for recognition nor he begged for it. He just spoke his opinion about an artist’s own creativity. He is not the best in everything but everything he touch becomes gold. @@stefheathcote6123 try kwon Ji yong. My top 3 1. Untitled 2. Divina commedia (divine comedy/dantes inferno) 3. Superstar. Kwon ji yong is a well made, raw and hauntingly beautiful album. GD wrote these when he is in deep depression and having world tours. There is also a documentary (Act motte) but a a Gd stan i can't watch it for the 2nd time because he shows his most vulnerable side and it pains me. You should also See MADE THE MOVIE it was awesome.

Another thing new kpop fans take for granted. Before GD there weren't any Fandom light sticks. It began with colored balloons for 1st gen... then glow-in-the-dark light sticks. Then GD designed the 1st Fandom light stick because he is a trendsetter.... everyone followed suit. However, I doubt the other groups designed it themselves.... they hire designers from the company. But GD had the idea of a Fandom lightstick and the design which is also a tat on his arm. He I think he also started the tattoo trend for an idol group when it was still taboo in Korea. Also all the colored hair...he did all the craziest colors first. Now every boy group colors their hair
