what beginner-friendly distros would you recommend for gaming? I'am trying to switch from windosw 11 to Linux but I'am afraid i choose the wrong distro. It's kinda overwhelming tbh.
@doomguy87183 ай бұрын
Use Linux mint to ease yourself in. It is windows like enough to allow you to learn the basics like 'what is a package manager?' 'how do I run exe files and how does wine help me do it?' etc while having fallbacks like synaptic to install software (or as we call them 'packages'), Firefox for browsing and libreoffice if you want to make docs or presentations. Once you feel like you've learnt enough you can use endeavour OS which is challenging enough for you to learn the rest about Linux while being newbie friendly enough to not make you feel overwhelmed. Fair warning switching to Linux WILL feel frustrating at the beginning and you will want to stop using it but that is only because you are learning a new thing from scratch. It's like learning how to drive, at the beginning you're unable to drive faster than a walking person but drive long enough and you'll be a pro

- RHEL is paid as far as I know. - CentOS is ded. - ZorinOS has a paid version too. - Pacman is supposedly the fastest package manager while DNF (Fedora Linux's package manager) is the slowest (they are working on making if faster though). - I know a lot of people don't consider NixOS to not be a Linux distro cause it's massively different from normal Linux distros but hey, it uses the Linux kernel. Would be fun to see you make a video about that.
@yurituhachevski15022 ай бұрын
Well what i disagree is dnf actually not the slowest,this trophy is for zypper(openSUSE's package manager),because in 2024 it still doesn't support parallel download which makes it extremely slow in updating big amounts of software like doing zypper dup in openSUSE Tumbleweed.
