Fun fact! The reason the choreography was so bad in A New Hope was because of the technology. And, partially the ages of the actors. Since the “lightsabers” on set were from their present, the 70s, they were EXTREMELY fragile, if the hit them too hard even once, they would shatter. So, they were forced to fight very slowly and clash super lightly. Hope this helped, great video!

For A New Hope, the duel against Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi relied more on the stakes that were set rather than the choreography since the technology at the time would have made it difficult for it to happen, as well as the limited budget, but it would have been cool to see something similar to the SC 38 Reimagined

Lol dude the duel in a new hope is one of the greatest in all the movies. The scope and magnitude of that fight is just amazing, the dialog and when Kenobi vanishes dude still gives me chills everytime I watch it. You also have to realize Vader is being extremely cautious on purpose, he's fighting the guy who literally cut off 3 of his limbs and almost killed him, and Kenobi isn't trying to kill Vader during the fight, he is only defending against Vaders cautious attacks. But I get it, the new generation won't appreciate the originals like some of us do. I was only 5 when the first prequel came out, but I still remember watching the original trilogy on vhs with my dad and older brothers

This is one of the things I think the prequels did pretty well. All of the fights then were being used by masters or people who are learning how to actually duel. My favorite fight is definitely today vs count dooku. It’s extremely apparent that they are both masters of their arts and it feels more like a dance than a fight. It gives you that feeling that this really is a time long past and that lightsaber really were “weapons for a more civilized age”

Vader vs Kenobi is literally one of the only duels that stick to the actual premise of starwars being basically a cross of a samurai/space/western. Everything else (bar Luke vs Vader which was emotionally fueled) was made flashy to draw in casual audiences. In saying that, nothing beats Darth maul vs Obi wan and Qui Gon. The music, the actual fight and the implications it held were amazing. Closely followed by Anakin VS Obi Wan on Mustafar.

I feel like in the original Obi-Wan vs. Vader fight was much more focused on the emotional implications of the fight. Vader is questioning why Obi-Wan is there, what his plan might be. Obi-Wan understands that Vader could destroy him at any moment, but is also aware that Vader is confused and hesitant. Obi-Wan is stalling for time using Vaders emotions against him, while Vader is trying to overcome his childlike uncertainty. The fight is more of a intellectual dance rather than a brutal contest for superiority.

They used metal sticks or just some really heavy objects prior to the light swords in prequels or original. It makes the lightsabers in that sense even lore-breaking if you have to swing them like a metal pole in sequels

Ngl Rey and Kylo on the Death Star is one of my favorite Star Wars duels. Star Wars duels have never been practical so I really don’t care how practical a lightsaber duel is, it’s just gotta look good and imo that duel is one for the best looking ones we’ve got. Plus the moment with Leia and Ben’s interaction with Han afterward
