They really need to track interceptions separately from those that the receiver bumbled, and those where the QB made a terrible throw. 7 of the first 8 interceptions in this clip are entirely the receiver's fault. Not saying that Jones doesn't suck, but just in general.

It's amazing how many of these bounce of the receivers hands. Mac has either some of the most unluckiest interceptions ever or some of the most why the fuck are you throwing, no in between. I defended him for so long before this, especially considering a lot of the interceptions were on other players with ball ricocheting, but a certain point you can't defend any of the pics he's made, they just keep getting worse and worse and it's due to the fact that's no confidence left what so ever in him. Mac never really had to face adversity like this in life before and he's just not responding well at all.

It's bad. Real bad. However, 6:10 is a sure touchdown for a high school QB. The first read is wide open from 20 yards away with plenty of end zone room and Mac underthrows him by about 7 yards with zero pressure in his face. He panicked at the sight of a defender, throws off his back foot for no reason, and puts an absolute floating duck right into the defender's chest. A touchdown that turns into a pick off an awful throw, with a bad read, bad footwork, and minimal defensive pressure that could have even been lessened further by altering the protection a bit (what the RB does here isn't very productive)--just failure in all areas from the QB spot.

As a born and raised patriots fan, Mac definitely has a lot of work to do. no doubt. The thing is, a little more than half of the interceptions are because the receiver didn't secure the ball or actually catch it even though it was in their hands. No doubt some of his reads are pretty bad but half of them are on the reciever.

I'd counter this by saying some of those tips are because he's not throwing very catchable balls. I saw at least a few that were either under thrown or over thrown. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of Jimmy G when he was with my niners. Dude would throw high or low, throw behind guys, and they try to catch it anyway, but the best they can do is get a hand on it. Which is blood in the water for the defense

I see your point. And I don't always agree with the way he's piled on in NE. But man, a lot of those picks were beyond awful. Like terrible stuff from a guy with no confidence. The receivers NE has now aren't the best but his throws too leave some serious room for the defense to cause problems. Either a knock-down or pick.

I'd sort them from most to least excusable: A. Receiver runs the wrong route or tips a well thrown ball. B. Offensive line fails to protect in the first few seconds (unless it's an obvious all-out blitz). C. Desperation throws on 4th down or in the final seconds. D. Risky throws while down by multiple scores and only a few possessions left. E. Bad weather/Defender makes an amazing play. F. Bad throws while ahead or down by one score. By that system, I'd give the interceptions in this video 8 As, 3 Bs, 3 Cs, 4 Ds, 2 Es and 16 Fs.

The jump from college to the NFL is, understandably, a big one. But even that said it's still perplexing how a QB that played for a big time college program (and played very well) could be this terrible in the NFL. But I guess it's often the case where the line between success and failure is a thin one. It doesn't take much and this is just another example. This video puts a lot into perspective because I'd say 40% of Jones' terrible play to this point is the fact that he has no help at WR. Far too many passes bouncing off of WR hands are the easiest passes to pick off for a DB. But if a pass isn't deflected I notice that almost every other INT the DB is making a beeline and jumping in front of the wideout because Jones is staring down one option. He's not looking off to go in another direction and that essentially gives him only one side of the field, making the defenders job that much easier. He's not in Kansas (uh, Alabama) anymore but even in college Mac Jones must have done this in some capacity in order to have led Roll Tide to a national championship. It doesn't make any sense for him to have never learned this. He's got to relearn what he already has learned if he has any hope of sticking in the NFL. The rest is up to his wideouts to catch the ball. Time will tell.

It's a great lesson on the psychology of regression. Just because you learned how to do something doesn't mean you're actually going to do it under stress. Once you're put under stressful situations often enough, it rewires your brain for those situations to do something different than before. This is what ruining a QB looks like. Everyone is just shocked because it's the Pats and not the Bears.

This was a good list, in that (unlike most) it actually DID progress from bad to worst. Those first six were absolutely not his fault, as the receiver absolutely had the first shot at the ball, and it bounced out of their hands. If they'd done their job, it wouldn't have been an interception. But it's not like they're getting paid for any of this. Oh, wait. They're being paid MILLIONS to CATCH THE BALL. Still, later in the video, you have to recall he's being paid millions to throw the ball to his receivers, not to the other team.

The next group was "receivers partially at fault" which i identified subjectively as (they didn't even make an attempt for the ball) which made up 7 of the interceptions (19%). Next group was "Macs at fault" which I identified subjectively as it was a bad throw and Mac is 100% responsible which made up 15 of the interceptions (42%). Lastly was "Int from sack/deflected at line" which made up 4 of the interceptions (11%). I mean look at how bad the receivers are... They look like they are giving 80% effort out there. They don't fight for the jump balls and it looks like they often times don't even both looking back to track the ball.

After watching this, I have ZERO idea why Kendrick Bourne or Nelson Agholor even lasted a full season in the NFL. Even with how bad they are, the INT at 4:27 is HORRENDOUS and I think shows that Mac Jones just doesn't have the arm strength needed. Infinite time in the pocket but rolls out because he can't get the ball down field without a running start which allows the pass rush to get to him, then throws to the other side of the field after staring that way for 2 seconds. 6:45 is another HORRIBLE INT, open WR for first down and he is staring that way as that is where the play is designed to go but inexplicably doesn't throw until the DB is able to get there. The rest are bad decisions but nowhere near as bad as these 2.
