The 2nd half of 2016 all of the big 3 were injured, Murray smelled blood and went for it to end the year as no.1, won a boat load of titles including bizarre ones like Vienna then got to No.1. Since then he won just 2 more titles for the rest of his whole career (including just one after his big op). Was it worth killing himself for?

Its honestly kind of ironic that Murray got his last title win against Wawrinka. Since in the 2017 Roland Garros Semi-final, both players were still in their primes. But after that match, Murray was never really the same player. Still, really glad we got to watch him play, and really happy that he kept fighting till the end. Congrats Murray for an amazing career!

What an amazing career !!! Murray is known for his grit and consistency on court. In an era, where the GOATs dominated the sport, he was always there, fighting, winning a few battles with them as well and always knocking on the door. It is difficult for anyone to not be discouraged by knowing the Top 3 but he always did his part. Certainly the 4th member after Big 3. The most important thing for me is that he always loved the sport and that he wanted to compete and play. Even after so many hear breaking loses, injuries and issues with his form, he always showed up trying his level best ! A very fierce competitor !

Great watch. Chuckled at how many of his wins were so understated, quick fist pump and startled look and then jog to the net. Some of my favourites there: 9:11 v Ferrer at Miami 2013, reminded me so much of his Wimbledon celebration with cap falling off and hands on head in shock. Then Valencia 2014 v Robredo (12:21). The only time in his 46 wins he collapses to the ground after a title win. So many players do it for the cameras but that one was merited after the epic rally! Surprised it took him until 2015 to win a title on clay. Also more titles after he cut his hair shorter from mid 2008!

Only the true fans will understand how amazingly good Murray was against the big 3 even during their peak years (maybe a bit past Roger's). Not many people know that Murray actually used to always have a winning h2h against Federer until 2014 Cincinnati masters match between the two. What Murray did for the British tennis is incomprehensible, but for him to compete against the 3 legends of the sport and still win 3 majors, 2 olympics singles medals, 46 singles titles and capture world no.1 ranking is insane.

I cringe whenever someone tries to make a case for Wawrinka over Murray. Sure, they both have 3 grand slams, but then we look at Murray making a ton more grand slam finals/semifinals, winning 14 Masters to Wawrinka’s 1, ATP Finals, 2 Olympic Golds whereas Wawrinka has 0 (in singles) and no ATP Finals wins, reached #1 while Wawrinka only reached #3, and 46 ATP Titles overall to Wawrinka’s 16. It’s not even a comparison. Wawrinka is one of my favorite players but he just doesn’t touch Murray in any department. I even hear this whole “peak level” argument which I think has no merit to it. Wawrinka had some great matches against Djokovic, but so did Murray. Murray once bagelled Nadal at Tokyo. Murray crushed Federer to win an Olympic Gold and crushed Djokovic at a Wimbledon final. In the end, the real reason people talk so highly of Wawrinka’s peak level is because he has such an exciting play style.
