i've noticed that when playing solos, kirk tends to use the bridge pickup while james likes using the neck pickup (at least on recordings), and i like how this gives both of them their own distinct sound.

I'm a neck pickup guy myself. I feel like the neck pickup just blends better with what's going on around it, and that works for James's solos which are generally more melodic. With Kirk you can tell he really wants his solos to cut through the accompaniment a bit more. It works.

@@DeanOMiite I agree, the neck pickup does sound more melodic. I think To Live is to Die is a great example of when the neck pickup works really well within the context of a song. I usually prefer the bridge pickup as I think you can get more personality out of your guitar when it comes to tone. That's one of the things that makes Kirk's solos great, is the amount of personality they have, and the unique range of sounds.

I dont understand the hate for load and reload. You take metallica. Make them a blues,rock and roll, jazz, alternative, metal band. You get laod and reload. I personally really like thse albums

The problem of load and reload is a lot of filler songs. Some songs like poor twisted me or slither can be deleted and no one would cry. Also there is material for 3 albums of 9 songs in 2 albums. I love load and reload but that is the biggest problem in my opinion.

Theyre too long with a lot of unnecessary tracks. Also it can be a drag listening to an album like Load where the first half is 10x better than the back half

@@lepermessiah__well, the book says literally “second solo: hetfield” but in an interview they said it was written by kirk with massive help by cliff. in fact, it doesn’t sound like a james’ solo but more like a bridge to the bass solo
