I can't thank you enough, for this compilation. If you weren't born before 1980....you'll never understand. YOU HAD TO BE THERE. Thankfully, this compilation gives mid-1980's---2000 babies a preview of the impact a dark-skinned, Black American male (AND FAMILY) had on the USA...and the world. BEFORE Martin Luther King had a national holiday. BEFORE Oprah. BEFORE Barack Obama. Michael opened doors via his art and presence. Michael's image as a Black male was VERY important. His sister Janet was on a top-rated TV sitcom, "Different Strokes". Even I and my brother owned Michael Jackson dolls. The image of Michael standing next to President Ronald Reagan? Or...Michael in the Oval Office, during his visit to Ronald Reagan? THAT part. You had to be there. Any late "fan" won't understand why Michael's older fans began to grow distant from him....as his nose surgeries became too excessive....and he opted to [ per Dr. Klein ] choose to completely depigment his skin color (instead of choosing to conceal w/ make-up...as he'd done in the "BAD" era). We still loved him....but, we were losing our connection to him. He was the first male---especially a Black male----to ever experience this level of extreme, global fame. It was sad to witness how this affected him. So, he drifted away from us Gen-X kids----and his fellow Baby Boomers. We all grew older. Hip-Hop culture continued to rise in the late 1980's. Janet Jackson's fame was exploding, in the late 1980's. We had too many socio-political issues consuming us ( the crack-drug epidemic ....the AIDS epidemic) and we began gravitating towards artists who appeared "grounded" and "real". This gave rise to his sister Janet's fame....as well as more Hip-Hop music. Our hearts never stopped loving Michael. But, Michael was becoming an estranged family member. The first 15 minutes of this commercial compilation makes me emotional. It was a peak era, for Michael. It was all of us....younger, and innocent (including Michael). 😔😔 You just had to be there.😞😞
